90’s Japanies Sports car with V6, big Turbo and usuall “japanies” problems.

Mean looking (and sounding) 1999 Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT) failed its annual MOT test on small hole in the floor panel.
Its always just a small hole isn’t it? 😀

Rather challenging wee job this one with fuel, brake and hydraulic lines (yes its a 4 wheel steer vehicle) right where I needed to cut, grind and weld.

Many would walk away from this but hey, who wouldn’t like a small challenge every now and then.

An ultimate 90’s poster car for sure, at least for me, cant remember when I seen one on the road. 👌🫡

Finaly after long 15 months, lots of hours and sweat, plenty of new metal and paint this 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo is ready to go home to County Kildare.

Those who followed this restoration know how much time, money and effort been invested in to this project.

The car was fully stripped down, both sills were completely rebuild, passenger side rear quarter panel been badly damaged and needed new panel.
After some research we quickly realized we wont be able to source the replacement because there are none available anymore, at least not for road cars.
We ended up buying and collecting rear half of another donor 944 in County Wicklow and salvaged the panel we needed.

Front wings been upgraded to fiberglass panels and vehicle recieved new paint job.

I would like to thank Emmet who owns the vehicle for trusting me with his beloved Porsche, it was a privilege and very exciting experience. I admit there was a time when I was sick looking at it but I know how much it means to Emmet and I am glad to see it on the trailer. And I mean it in best possible way!

There is a lot of jobs I did and it becomes qu**ky just a routine and you hardly remember the details but I believe I will remember this one for long time.

Its a stunning looking car and these kind of jobs keep me going.

And so the Defender 90 300Tdi build continues…

The new galvanised bulkhead from Richards Chassis has been fully sealed, prepped, and painted.

The VIN, together with a few fittings, was transferred from the old rusty bulkhead before the new shiny one was fitted to the vehicle.
New windscreen blocks supplied and fitted, wiring loom, front vent meshes, steering column, pedals and heater matrix re-fitted and whole dashboard re-assembled.

Needless to mention all gaskets have been replaced with new ones on all meeting areas.

Wings, doors, floors and many more are still to be fitted. 😉
Stay tuned.

2004 Range Rover L322 TD6 in for relatively easy Friday job.

This nice RR in lovely Cairns Blue belongs to my long years friend Colin, the vehicle started to make suspicious clunking noises last Saturday when Colin and his son Chris were on marshal duties on Ulster Rally quite close to my workshop.

After quick test drive and inspection we found the culprit, rear propshaft carrier bearing “left the chat” and universal joint was about to follow.

To avoid any further damage the vehicle had to be parked up and guys were forced to use alternative transportation to get home after very long day on rally stages.

New propshaft been supplied and fitted and big truck drives nice and smooth again.

Got a surprise visit this afternoon…

Blue Defender 90 Td5 I changed the bulkhead on with help of my friend Keith ( Balloo Sky ) couple weeks back came back to show itself in new shiny coat.

One very smart looking Land Rover for sure, will be hard to miss it anytime I see it on the road. 👌

Another low mileage Defender 90 Puma in for new rear crossmember…

Customer opted for longer variant of Maer HD galvanised crossmember this time round which includes rear floor supports and new fuel tank cradle brackets.

Rear tubular seat supports were in bad shape and needed replacing, new galvanised parts made by YRM Metal Solutions were supplied and fitted together with new stainless steel mud flap brackets.

Smart looking 2008 Land Rover Defender 110 Puma SW initially booked for small welding job and Alphalan treatment turned out to be quite some mission.

Bulkhead in drivers side footwell needed some attention, rear crossmember still in decent condition started to show little rust damage but biggest issue was front crossmember below the radiator pack.

A relatively small repair required quite extensive stripping, bonnet off, fan with air duct and engine coolant radiator with intercooler out, steering guard and front steering arm with damper stripped out as well.

Somebody already make an attempt to repair this section with welding on a piece of plate over existing rust in the past, both ends of the crossmember needed to be rebuilt.

To customers request front brakes been completely overhauled, new callipers, discs with pads and on passenger side a new stub axle fitted. Svivels filled up with fresh grease and brakes bled.

Finaly the whole chassis was scrubbed down together with both axles and wheel arches in preparation for Alphalan treatment.

Fantastic little sports car in the garage for a spot of welding…

1998 Toyota MR2 in for new sills… both sills been cut out and inner sills fully repaired, treated with rust converter and painted with two coats of zinc primer before new zinc coated sills were welded on.
Small holes on each side of rear booth proved to be quite tricky task due the lack of space to work, see or even stick the welding torch in.

Who wouldn’t like a bit of challenge and free yoga right? 🤭

All welded areas painted with zinc primer and seam sealer where necessary.
