THE TRUTH ABOUT LEARNING TO DRIVE

Before you jump into driving lessons, here are some things you need to know:

1️⃣ You’re learning to control a powerful machine. If it’s handled carelessly or wrongly, the consequences can be life-changing from serious injury to fatalities.

2️⃣ The process won’t be quick, easy, or cheap. Developing coordination, timing and spatial awareness takes practice.
Repetition is what turns it into second nature.

3️⃣ The moment you sit in the driver’s seat, you carry legal responsibility for yourself, your passengers, your vehicle, and the safety of others around you.
Being a learner does not protect you from the law.

4️⃣ Don’t underestimate the value of the theory test. It’s not a box to tick it’s your foundation for safer driving.
Revise hard, aim high, and remember that knowledge is what protects you out on the road.

5️⃣ Everyone learns at a different pace. Comparing yourself to others is pointless. If it takes you longer, so be it your safety is worth the time.
Learning to drive is not a race.

6️⃣ Trust your Instructor. Friends and family may mean well, but advice can be outdated or wrong.
Your Instructor is trained, experienced, and knows when you’re truly ready for test day.

7️⃣ Passing your test is not the end of the journey it’s the beginning. A pass simply shows you’re safe to continue learning on your own. True confidence and skill only come with experience.

Driving is a lifelong lesson.

Everyone on the road has a duty of care 🫶🏾

🚨 DRIVING THE WRONG WAY ON A MOTORWAY AND IT’S HAPPENING FAR MORE OFTEN !

This is frightening.
New Press Association research has found that 31 drivers in just 30 weeks have been charged with criminal offences involving driving in the wrong direction on motorways in England and Wales.

These aren’t all cases of somebody simply becoming confused at a junction.
Court cases include drivers reversing along motorways, performing U-turns near fast-moving traffic and driving backwards because they’ve missed an exit.

One driver was caught reversing a Nissan Qashqai along the M11, partly in lane one. His licence had already been revoked and the vehicle was uninsured. He was fined £660, banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge.

Another driver was caught reversing up a slip road for the M6 Toll, while a third case involved NHS worker Innocent Ayodele, 32, who was caught trying to escape congestion on the M61 by driving the wrong way up an entry slip road.

He told the court he was trying to get home to his pregnant wife. He already had nine points on his licence and could now face a ban when he is sentenced and there is an even bigger figure that caught my attention.

National Highways data obtained by the Press Association recorded 947 reports involving “oncoming vehicles” on England’s motorways in the 12 months to 11 May.

National Highways does stress that this figure can include unconfirmed reports and says confirmed incidents of wrong-way driving remain rare. But every report is treated seriously and acted on quickly.

Missed your exit? Carry on.
Stuck in traffic? Wait.

Taken the wrong turning?
Find somewhere safe and legal to correct your route.

There is absolutely no journey, missed junction or traffic jam worth deliberately putting yourself head on into motorway traffic.

One bad decision could leave another completely innocent road user with nowhere to go.

A traffic jam might cost you time. A missed exit might cost you a few extra miles. Driving the wrong way could cost somebody their life. No shortcut is worth meeting an innocent family head-on.

🧸 Something as innocent-looking as a soft toy hanging from your mirror can become a serious obstruction.

A driver has been sentenced after an 80-year-old man was killed in a collision in Wakefield.

Police investigators found that stuffed toys hanging from the rear-view mirror had significantly affected the driver’s visibility.

Had they not been there, investigators said she would have had a clearer view of the pedestrian.

We talk constantly about phones and distraction.

But anything that blocks your view through the windscreen can matter.

Air fresheners.
Large sat-nav mounts.
Dangling decorations.
Soft toys.
Before you drive, ask yourself one simple question:

Can I see everything I need to see?

💊 “I feel fine” is not a drug test.

21,791 people were convicted of drug-driving offences in England and Wales last year.

THINK! research found that 41% of young men believed it could be acceptable to drive after taking drugs if they felt fine.

That attitude is exactly the problem.

You cannot reliably measure impairment by how normal you think you feel.

If drugs are part of the night, remove driving from the journey home.

Taxi.
Lift.
Stay over.
Anything except guessing.

Refresher lessons aren’t about starting all over again. Sometimes it’s simply about finding that confidence that’s been hiding away for a few years.

Seeing somebody go from nervous about getting behind the wheel again to feeling like they’ve never been away is exactly why I love what I do.

Thank you so much, for trusting me and for taking the time to leave such a lovely words. It was an absolute pleasure helping you find your confidence again. 🫶🏾🚗
