What can YOU spot on the left? πŸ‘€πŸš—

We're waiting at the traffic lights, but when everything starts moving I ask the learner to hang back for a second.

Before we continue, there's something on the left that she needs to notice.

Would you have spotted it?

What are YOU looking at while waiting at traffic lights? πŸ‘€πŸš¦

Don't just stare at the red light.

Look beyond the vehicles ahead, check the signs and road markings, and think about what could happen when the traffic starts moving again.

Here I've already spotted something on the left that could affect what happens next.

Did you notice it?

Ever spot a 5 mph speed limit sign and wonder if it’s legally enforceable, or just a polite suggestion? πŸ€”

Here is the quick breakdown:

On Public Roads: Official Highway Code speed limits generally start at 20 mph. A 5 mph circular sign on a public highway is extremely rare and usually indicates a private property boundary or restricted facility ahead.

On Private Land: You’ll frequently see these posted around car parks, industrial estates, depots, and site entrances. While local authorities and police don’t enforce them under standard road traffic law, landowners can take civil action if speed rules are ignored.

Safety First: Regardless of legal technicalities, these limits are put in place for pedestrian safety and heavy machinery areas. Keeping your speed down prevents unnecessary accidents!

What’s the lowest official speed limit sign you've ever spotted on your daily drive? Drop a comment below! πŸ‘‡

πŸ‘€ DO YOU KNOW WHY THIS ROAD SIGN HAS A YELLOW BACKGROUND?

You’ve probably driven past signs like this hundreds of times β€” but have you ever wondered why some have a yellow backing board and others don't? πŸ€”

🟨 Does yellow give the sign a different meaning?
⚠️ Does it change the warning?
πŸ‘€ Or is it there for another reason entirely?

This is something learner drivers may see during their driving lessons or even on their UK driving test.

πŸ‘‡ What do you think the yellow background is for?

Put your answer in the comments before reading everyone else's! 😁

I’ll explain the answer afterwards.

Stalled on your driving test? 😳

Don't assume you've failed.

This learner stalls at the traffic lights, says β€œsorry”… and we simply get on with it.

A stall doesn't automatically mean a driving test fail. Stay calm, recover safely and carry on.

The worst thing you can do is let one mistake affect everything you do afterwards.

Does meeting an oncoming car on a narrow road stress you out? πŸ˜¬πŸš—

That's exactly what happens to this learner during a real driving lesson.

There's only one space available, so we slow everything down and work our way through the gap.

Her reaction afterwards?

β€œThat wasn't that stressful.” πŸ˜„

β€œI can't see.” πŸ‘€πŸš—

So should this learner go β€” or wait?

She's approaching a crossroads but doesn't have a clear enough view to make the decision confidently.

She takes her time, improves the view and eventually:

β€œI think I can go… yeah.”

Is that hesitation β€” or good caution?

Do you overthink decisions like this when you're learning to drive? πŸ€”πŸš—

After passing a parked vehicle, we need to get back into the correct lane before the traffic lights.

There's a gap behind the van β€” but do you drive into it and then brake, or slow down first and enter the gap under control?

At the end the learner admits:

β€œI just overthink.” πŸ˜…

Sound familiar?

Would you trust the sat nav or the road signs? πŸ›°οΈπŸš—

Sat navs can get things wrong.

Even when you're following directions, you still need to read the road signs and markings and make your own driving decisions.

The sat nav gives you directions β€” it doesn't drive the car for you.

⏱️ THE 5-SECOND DRIVING TEST! πŸš—

Imagine you're driving along this road.

You have just 5 seconds to look at the picture and decide what could affect your drive.

πŸ‘€ What did YOU spot?

Were you looking at the parked cars?
The road ahead?
Pedestrians?
Junctions?
Potential hidden hazards?

Or did you notice something everyone else missed? πŸ€”

πŸ‘‡ Comment everything you spotted in 5 seconds β€” then compare your answer with everyone else's.

There isn't just one thing to look for. Good drivers are constantly observing, anticipating and deciding what could happen next.

Let's see who spots the most! πŸ‘€πŸš—
