What are YOU looking at while waiting at traffic lights? 👀🚦

Don't just stare at the red light.

Look beyond the vehicles ahead, check the signs and road markings, and think about what could happen when the traffic starts moving again.

Ever spot a 5 mph speed limit sign and wonder if it’s legally enforceable, or just a polite suggestion? 🤔

Here is the quick breakdown:

On Public Roads: Official Highway Code speed limits generally start at 20 mph. A 5 mph circular sign on a public highway is extremely rare and usually indicates a private property boundary or restricted facility ahead.

On Private Land: You’ll frequently see these posted around car parks, industrial estates, depots, and site entrances. While local authorities and police don’t enforce them under standard road traffic law, landowners can take civil action if speed rules are ignored.

Safety First: Regardless of legal technicalities, these limits are put in place for pedestrian safety and heavy machinery areas. Keeping your speed down prevents unnecessary accidents!

You’ve probably driven past signs like this hundreds of times — but have you ever wondered why some have a yellow backing board and others don't? 🤔

Stalled on your driving test? 😳

Don't assume you've failed.

This learner stalls at the traffic lights, says “sorry”… and we simply get on with it.

A stall doesn't automatically mean a driving test fail. Stay calm, recover safely and carry on.

The worst thing you can do is let one mistake affect everything you do afterwards.

Does meeting an oncoming car on a narrow road stress you out? 😬🚗

That's exactly what happens to this learner during a real driving lesson.

There's only one space available, so we slow everything down and work our way through the gap.

Her reaction afterwards?

“That wasn't that stressful.” 😄

There's a gap behind the van — but do you drive into it and then brake, or slow down first and enter the gap under control?

At the end the learner admits:

Even when you're following directions, you still need to read the road signs and markings and make your own driving decisions.

The sat nav gives you directions — it doesn't drive the car for you.
