Classic Mini Mayfair with a continuing overheat issue, having been in and out of many other garages. So we decided to check all potential issues;
• oval bores? Nope
• valve guides worn? Yup
• valve seats not sealing? Yup
• head mating surface warped? Not sure, now at for that bit!

We will get to the bottom of this - it’s been off the road since November apparently, and it’s a daily driver!

One of the last Mk2s, this was bought new by the current owner and used as her daily driver ever since.
When it came to us, it had been subjected to many years of poor MOT welding, so had to be taken right back.
Now it’s ready for use once more, with a fresh MOT and service too.

Something from each end of the Japanese spectrum today:

• Lexus has had some underside and sill repairs and is now waiting to go home
• Landcruiser has had a leak repaired and is now waiting on the rack mounts to turn up.

205 GTI waiting to go home after a whole load of work.
10 years ago, almost to the day, we did the remedial work on the same customer’s previous 205 GTI. Not sure if I’ll be still corpus mentus for the next one in 2036, but let’s see….

MGB running issues from being sat sitting..
Vacuum gauge test indicated air leaks a plenty. New inlet manifold gasket and a partial rebuild of the carbs later, along with a clean new set of plugs, and it runs much better.
It now needs a bit of running and regular use - hopefully the weather will change soon so that can happen! 🌧️

Project Notch is up and ready: the idea is to make improvements whilst still using this as a daily (weekly?). The aim being, to show others that a rolling project is a possibility and that not all classic restorations need to be a massive lump sum all in one go.

THAT’S the plan - come with us and see how we get on with the reality 🔧

Peugeot 205 GTI final touches on the list it came in with:
•rear end was too low, so it’s now been reindexed
•clutch, gear selector kit and clutch cable all replaced
• roof paint sorted

And a few other bits n bobs. Part 2 to come!

Reliability of suppliers is such a minefield these days: I’m old enough to remember GSF as German & Swedish, and how well they used to do for getting the right parts for their customers.
Yeah, those days are gone now - don’t think they’ll ever return. Don’t even get me started on SES 🙄😅

Thankfully had one in stock and have kindly sent it on a rush for tomorrow morning….so the race is on to get this Pug back on the ground and running for the weekend Sun. Will we do it??
