Lydden Hill Race Circuit An action packed motorsports venue in Kent based just off the A2 between Canterbury and Dover.

Known as the friendly track, Lydden Hill Race Circuit was founded in 1955 by the late Bill Chesson and the Astra club. Lydden Hill Race Circuit is the UK's shortest road racing circuit (many shorter oval tracks exist) at exactly one mile (1609 m). The venue is superbly situated in an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty and set with its own amphisphere, located in the beautiful village of Wootton about half-way between Canterbury and Dover in Kent. It is mainly used for FIA, MSA and ACU events as well as trackdays, including rallycross, saloon and sports car racing and motorcycle racing. It may be only a mile long, but Lydden is a testing circuit, with many undulation changes.

From a 16-year-old arriving at Lydden on his moped to racing 200bhp superbikes at 69 years old… meet Mario Campion! 🏍️

Mario first discovered Lydden Hill in 1973, watching the Lord of Lydden races from the sidelines. Just four years later, he'd saved up for his racing licence and was competing in the very event that had inspired him ⭐️

After racing in 1977 and 1978, family commitments and starting his own business meant stepping away from competition, but his love for Lydden never faded 🫶

Having spent 11 years as a track day instructor and completing more laps of the circuit than he can count, Mario decided to make his racing comeback in 2020, getting his licence back after 38 years and finishing third in the wet at the age of 63! 🥉

Now 69, a grandfather of six, and 49 years on from his first Lord of Lydden appearance, Mario is back on the grid for our 60th anniversary weekend, racing two Yamaha R1s 🙌

His goal? To keep racing until he's 70 next year!

A special anniversary deserves a very special guest list 👀

Across the weekend, we’ll be welcoming back former Lord of Lydden winners and Sidecar Burn Up champions, with autograph sessions giving you the chance to meet some of the riders who have helped shape the event’s history ✍️

Joining us across the weekend are Kevin Richards, David Redgate, Tom Ward and Tim Bourne - both four-time Lord of Lydden winners - eight-time World Sidecar Champion Tim Reeves, Sean Hegarty, six-time British Superbike Champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, Dave Cohen, Laurence Hopper, Toby Clarke, Fenton Seabright, Ian Guy and Darren Dixon, the only person ever to win both the Lord of Lydden and Sidecar Burn Up titles 🙌

A number of our former champions will also be back on track, competing across the weekend 🏁

Our fourth and final Rallysprint of the year is tomorrow - and here is who is taking to the track 🙌

Rallysprint sees two drivers start side-by-side, racing against the clock across two different circuit layouts. Each run consists of two laps, with drivers tackling a different layout on each lap 🏁

SHAKEY RETURNS TO LYDDEN HILL! 🏍️

British Superbike legend Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is heading back to Lydden Hill for the 60th anniversary of the Lord of Lydden and Sidecar Burn Up! 🙌

The six-time British Superbike Champion and 1997 Lord of Lydden winner will be taking to the track for demonstration laps aboard his 2017 championship-winning motorcycle 👀

Speaking exclusively to Motorcycle News, Shakey recalled his early days at the track: “Lydden was the first place I ever got to ride on a road racing bike, it’s a great little track, and I’ve got some great memories there.”
