🏁 A Very Special Sprite 🇬🇧🇿🇦

At first glance, this might look like a smart little Frogeye Sprite — but there’s much more to this car than meets the eye. 👀

Built in 1958, it was supplied to South Africa as a CKD kit and assembled at BMC’s Blackheath plant. It was then fitted with a host of competition-inspired upgrades, including Girling disc brakes, a 3.7:1 differential and a Healey 100 anti-roll bar. 🔧🏁

But perhaps the most intriguing feature is the unique all-steel, forward-opening bonnet, believed to have links to the prototype Sprite MkII. It even went on to compete in long-distance rallies in South Africa. 🏆

Now back in the UK, this fascinating Sprite is a wonderful reminder that even the smallest MG and Healey sports cars can have some seriously big stories behind them. ❤️

🚗 A Visit to Mike Authers Classics 🏁

We recently paid a visit to Mike Authers Classics, near Abingdon, and what a collection! 👀✨

Mike’s fascination with MG Midgets began back in the 1970s — and it hasn’t stopped since! ❤️ Over the years, he’s sold thousands of MG Midgets and Sprites, building a well-earned reputation for sourcing and offering quality examples to discerning enthusiasts.

We’ve been proud to work alongside Mike for many years, supplying the parts he needs to recommission and prepare his cars for sale. 🔧🛠️

It’s always a pleasure to see the results, and there were certainly some fine examples on display during our visit! 😍
A great reminder that the passion for these little MGs is still going strong, decades after they first hit the road. 🏁

🚗 Pedal to the Metal❤️

On our recent travels, we spotted a few hard-to-find MG pedal cars manufactured in the 1970s — a brilliant little piece of MG history! 👀
Over 100 years of the MG marque, the octagon has inspired generations of enthusiasts, and it seems some things never change… the love of MG can start at a very young age! 🏁

These miniature MGs may not have had a roaring engine under the bonnet, but they certainly captured the spirit, style and excitement of their full-size counterparts. 🔧✨

🏁 MGs at Kop Hill Climb 🚗

Over 16,000 people attended Kop Hill Climb, raising money for the local charities — and what a fantastic atmosphere it was! 🙌
It was lovely to meet so many MG owners and chat about everything that makes owning these cars so enjoyable, from the pleasure of driving them to maintenance, restoration and those all-important upgrades. 🔧❤️

As MGOC Spares, we’re always interested to hear what owners are working on, what they’ve discovered along the way and, of course, what parts and upgrades they’re looking for next!
Events like Kop Hill are a great reminder that MG ownership is about much more than the cars themselves. It’s about the people, the stories, the shared knowledge and the friendships that come with them. 🏁🤝

🚗❤️ Meet “Little Loveboat” 🇬🇧🇨🇭

Enthusiasts Reto & Nicole recently set off on an impromptu adventure from their home in Switzerland, heading for Land’s End in their charmingly personalised 1971 Bracken MGB GT.

Affectionately known as “Little Loveboat”, this much-loved GT has been given Reto’s personal touch, with a bespoke roof rack, sound system, wind deflectors and a host of other clever customisations. 🔧✨

Their journey even included a stop at MGOC Spares to pick up a set of stainless steel braided oil cooler hoses — because even the best adventures sometimes need a little MG maintenance along the way! 😉

And a special mention has to go to Bibendum, who has clearly bagged himself the best seat in the house for the journey! 🧸🚗💨

What a fantastic way to enjoy an MG — great roads, great scenery and plenty of miles ahead. We hope they have a brilliant trip to Land’s End! 🏁
