World Mental Health Day, Professional driving can be rewarding, but long hours, busy schedules and time spent alone can sometimes be challenging.

Just as you check your vehicle before every journey, it's important to check in on your own wellbeing too. If things feel overwhelming, don't carry the load on your own. Talking can help.

Autumn may be one of the UK's most beautiful seasons, but it can also be one of the most challenging for drivers.

In fact, the AA reports that road crashes increase by 23% during autumn compared to summer, as wet weather, darker evenings and low sun affect driving conditions.

From slippery leaves and standing water to morning fog and frost, drivers face a range of seasonal hazards. Whether you're driving a car, van or HGV, taking a few extra precautions can help keep you, your vehicle and other road users safe.

🍂 THE ANCIENT ART OF LEAF CATCHING 🍂

Nothing to do with driving... just a bit of fun

With October upon us, we feel it's time to talk about a proud British tradition that is sadly disappearing...

Catching a falling leaf.

For generations, people have looked skywards on an autumn day, spotted a leaf beginning its final journey to the ground and thought:

“I reckon I can catch that.”

And so began the age-old autumn challenge.

The rules are simple:

🍂 Spot a falling leaf
🍂 Predict its flight
🍂 Make a surprisingly sudden movement towards it
🍂 Catch it before it reaches the ground
🍂 Feel an entirely disproportionate sense of achievement

Nobody quite knows where the tradition began. Some believe it dates back centuries, when catching a falling leaf would give you good health throughout the coming winter months. Others say it was simply something people did because there were no smartphones.

Whatever the origins, somewhere along the way we've stopped doing it.

And frankly, that's not good enough.

So this October, Driver Hire Cambridge is calling on the good people of Cambridge to revive this ancient tradition before the end of the month.

Next time you're out and you see a leaf falling...

GO FOR IT. 🍂

If you catch one, take a photo and post it in the comments. One-handed catches will naturally earn considerably more respect.

Miss it?

That's fine.

We've all been there.

Let's bring leaf catching back.

Who's taking the challenge? 🍂👇
