🧡 PASS WIDE & SLOW – IT COULD SAVE A LIFE! 🖤🚗
Did you know that horses can be easily frightened by anything!! A sudden noise, a bird flying out of the hedge, a piece of rubbish on the floor, a vehicle passing too closely or travelling too fast can cause a horse to spook, potentially putting the rider, horse and other road users in danger. IMAGINE THATS YOUR BEST FRIEND, SON OR DAUGHTER.
The Highway Code is clear about how we should pass horses safely. Here’s what every driver needs to remember:
🟠 10 MPH MAXIMUM when passing a horse.
🟠 AT LEAST 2 METRES of space when it’s safe to pass and look at what the rider is asking of you!
🟠 NO REVVING & NO HONKING – keep your engine noise down and avoid sudden acceleration.
🟠 BE PATIENT – if it’s not safe to pass, slow down and wait until it is.
🟠 GIVE THEM TIME – horses are living animals, not machines. They can be unpredictable, even with an experienced rider.
💡 Remember: Arriving a few seconds later is always better than risking someone’s safety.
Whether you’re a new driver or have been driving for years, please help spread the word. A little patience and consideration can make a HUGE difference to those on horseback. 🐎❤️
