This customer contacted me because their automatic Nissan wasn't changing gears. After a quick investigation I found that the gearbox oil cooler was leaking and the lack of oil was stopping the gearbox from changing gear, we had to carry out the repairs to be able to test the gearbox. Replaced the gearbox oil cooler and pipes then refilled the gearbox with oil and retested. The car drove a lot better after this, but did still occasionally get stuck in a gear. These Nissan gearboxes are prone to internal faults and the lack of oil has unfortunately caused problems. The customer was advised to speak to a gearbox specialist to quote for stripping and repairing the gearbox internals.

This customer was referred to me from a local garage because they didn't have availability to carry out these repairs. The crankshaft pulley had fallen apart which made the van undrivable, managed to swap the pulley and belt out to get the customer back on the road.

The customer reported a tapping noise from the timing belt side of the engine whilst it was running. Remove the covers and found that one of the camshaft bolts had worked loose and was hitting the cover. This is a common problem on these engines. Remove the bolts one at a time and thread locked the bolts back in and torqued to spec. Her customer was lucky that the bolt hadn't fallen out completely and the only one bolt had started to work loose. Otherwise it could have been very expensive.

The customer reported that the rear brakes had seized on. After removing the drums it was obvious that the brake shoes had fallen apart, some new shoes and drums and it was back on the road.

Here is a recent repair on a mercedes A-class, it required the tensioner to be replaced as it has failed!
