🔋 A very useful update for Victron Orion XS owners

Victron’s latest Orion XS firmware v1.15 introduces Emergency Reverse Charging.

If your starter battery is too low to crank the engine, a compatible Orion XS can now temporarily reverse its normal charging direction and charge the starter battery from your leisure battery.

For campervans and motorhomes running large lithium leisure banks, this could be an extremely useful get-you-going feature — without needing a separate starter-battery charger or jump pack.

Currently supported on:
• Orion XS 12/12-50A
• Orion XS 12/12-70A
• Orion XS 1400

It requires the latest Orion XS firmware and VictronConnect v6.43.

Victron also says this is the first of several reverse-charging features planned for the Orion XS range, which could make these chargers even more useful in future installations.

We’ll be testing this ourselves.

Keltie Campers + Rolyan Designs are now Fiadh Adventure Vehicles.

After years of building our businesses independently, we've decided to bring Keltie Campers and Rolyan Designs together under one name.

FIADH ADVENTURE VEHICLES

We'll continue operating from the Rolyan Designs workshop in Callander, bringing the experience, facilities and skills of both businesses together under one roof.

For our existing Keltie and Rolyan customers, we're still the same people you've dealt with before. What's changing is what we can now offer together.

Fiadh combines bespoke vehicle design, conversion and fabrication with specialist off-grid electrical engineering — from complete campervan and adventure vehicle builds to lithium, solar, inverter systems, heating, air conditioning, connectivity and electrical diagnostics.

We're also bringing Keltie's position as Scotland's only Victron-approved installer specialising in leisure vehicles into Fiadh.

Over the coming weeks we'll show you more of the workshop, introduce what we're building and explain where we're taking Fiadh.

There's a certain kind of VW T6 owner who's done everything right with their conversion — quality fitout, pop-top roof, the lot — but the electrics are letting the side down.
That was exactly the situation here. The original lead-acid battery mounted under the seat had started overheating and simply couldn't keep up with demand anymore. Not ideal when you're trying to get away and actually use the thing.
We replaced the underseat battery with a Fogstar Drift 172Ah lithium — a significant step up in usable capacity, and no more heat concerns. The original 30A DC-DC charger was swapped out for a Victron Orion XS 50A, which means the lithium charges properly and efficiently from the engine while driving. We also fitted a new Victron SmartSolar MPPT controller and replaced a faulty flexible solar panel on the pop-top that wasn't performing as it should.
The result is a system that actually matches the quality of the rest of the build. Proper lithium power, a charger that can keep up with it, and solar that works.

Intermittent faults are some of the most frustrating things to deal with on a campervan — and one of the hardest to diagnose. This owner had been living with an unreliable Truma diesel heater for a long time without getting to the bottom of it. When the van came into us at Keltie Campers, we took the time to properly diagnose the fault and carry out a full repair. No guesswork, no parts-swapping hoping for the best — just methodical diagnosis and a fix that actually holds.

While the van was with us, we also completed a full habitation check. It's something we always recommend when a vehicle comes in for any significant work. A habitation check looks at everything from gas safety and ventilation through to the 12V and mains electrics — the kind of things that can go unnoticed until they become a problem on a trip. It's peace of mind that the whole van is in good order, not just the thing you brought it in for.

On top of that, we upgraded the battery setup with a Fogstar Drift 230Ah underseat lithium battery and a Victron 20A mains battery charger. The customer now has a properly sorted van — reliable heat, a healthy electrical system, and the confidence to head out without wondering what might let them down.
