Over the past year confidence in headlight restoration has improved more and more, still donāt offer wet sanding them as a package due to them not been 100% satisfactory, during the process there is always one grade that I canāt seem to sand down or cut properly.
The E60, which is my own mild resto project, had pretty poor headlights and felt this to be the perfect ātrouble shoot and diagnoseā car.
It turns out that the jump in the sandpaper kit used from 1250 > 1500 > 2500 is too much. There needs to be a grit in between 1500 and 2500. 1500 Iād argue is an abrasive whether 2500 is more of a refine grade.
Thankfully the E60ās headlight material worked with the rotary stage and the scratches were removed indefinitely. Have ordered another kit, that includes 1750,2000,2250 to see if the issue found will resolve itself
The car presents far far fresher now even with the one headlight done. Fog lights need the same treatment.
Will report back once the other headlight has been sanded to see if we are confident enough to put it on the options list of work we can carry out on your car.
It is a 2-4 hour job per headlight, donāt use a DA machine it is traditional block and paper. We also have to work out if itās financially viable for us to offer it as a service.
This time the headlight has been ceramic coated. However we would always recommend lacquering them to seal in the work and prevent them from yellowing again in the future.
