⚡ Why We Don’t Sell EV Extension Cables – And Why You Should Avoid Them Too

We get asked this a lot: “Do you sell EV charging extension cables?”
The answer is no — and there’s a very good reason why.

Using an extension cable between your EV and charger is not compliant with UK EV charging standards (BS 7671 & IEC 61851-1) and can be unsafe.

🚫 IEC 61851-1 clearly states:
“A cord extension set or second cable assembly shall not be used in addition to the cable assembly for the connection of the vehicle to the EVSE.”

Why it matters:
✔ Risk of overheating and fire
✔ Increased voltage drop and damage to charger or vehicle
✔ Not approved under UK wiring regulations
✔ Can void insurance or vehicle warranty

✅ Safe alternatives:

Use a longer Type 2 cable (5m, 7.5m, 10m, 15m)

Install a wall-mounted EV charger (Mode 3)

Only use a 3-pin “granny charger” occasionally — never with an extension lead

Your EV is a serious investment — your charging setup should be too.
