It's going to be dry again on Sunday July 19th but so much cooler and not so gusty as last Sunday. With a lot of interest from new sellers coming to Pendeen for the first time so numbers should increase. 200 sellers maybe for a Sunday car boot sale plenty for to travel to from far and wide on a weekly basis to look around from 1pm till 3.30pm before some start leaving, but we go on until 4pm for those sellers that can put up with such a long day from 9.30am. 🙂

Shirley, Mary, Freda, Cyril, Cynthia and Michael held the buckets at our smaller sale Sunday July 12th. Donations amounted to £314.86 THANK YOU to all those that donated on entry from 1pm and THANK YOU to them standing, sitting there in the heat. As a family we have discussed this heat predicament with an inclination to cancel when the temperature rises above 30 degrees in the future. It's been an unusual season being so wet to start with and now so dry. But we persevere and hope this coming Sunday is cooler but dry. We do not want any fatalities at Pendeen with these higher temperatures and lack of breeze. Yesterday we had the easterly gusts which kept us cooler and being on the coast. Everyone's health and safety outweigh anyone's greed. At Pendeen we look after our sellers and buyers and if a cry of help comes forth, we act. From day one we have looked after our regulars, so they come on a weekly basis. Anyone that doesn’t keep to our rules we don’t want to see them again. As far as I’m aware Pendeen is as popular, we know car boot sales have changed in the last thirty years.
Pendeen has been very charitable and honest with numbers given on this page. Folk travelling from the cities to be here when they have sales nearby preferring to be at Pendeen is a huge compliment to us as organisers of a sale held at the town of Stratton. 🤔

Under the circumstances with the weather. Forecast of 31 /32 degrees and a gusty easterly breeze putting many of our regulars off attending today. We lost three sellers due to the wind early on this morning. But we ended with 113 sellers able to trade today. I know this is well down on last week but a bit of common sense with the weather conditions it may be dry, but some can’t stick this heat. Luckily the easterly breeze was cooling and more comfortable than none. It was again a seller's day today with plenty of early buyers and sellers already having good sales with them. With the main buyers coming in then from 1pm with some selling out and leaving earlier. Plenty of footfall for a smaller sale lasting to normal times. It's disappointing for some that numbers are low but better a smaller sale than a cancellation. It's hard work for the volunteers in this heat and a huge commitment in making Pendeen a success. Sport can be another factor, but we can only presume numbers will rise again when the forecast is more suitable for car booting with the visitors coming here now for the Summer Holiday. THANK YOU to all that supported us today and the THANKS for continuing. 🙂

Donations on a high for Sunday July 5th with Julie, Debi, Annette, Di, Michael and Cynthia amounting to £534.21 for the League of Friends of Stratton Hospital raising our total to date this season to £6,136.52 THANK YOU to the bucket holders, and all for your donations in appreciation. I was at the helm this Sunday with Karl not being there hoping for a small sale, but 200 sellers pushed back up again with many regulars still missing due to the damp morning first thing. With many sellers attending for the first time praising us up. Visitors praising our set up and so well organised with our volunteers TEAM PENDEEN so in control. Big Thank you to Matt again helping me close the sale down at 4pm and leaving the site at 5pm with some still packing up and closing the gate on leaving. Next Sale Sunday July 12th looking dry and warmer. 🙂

Left down by the bottom hedge but taken and recycled by a kind lady wanting Pendeen to continue. If this is you and apology will suffice if dumped on purpose just not allowed out of 200 sellers today precisely thanks to a seller turning up at 2pm. Great car boot sale otherwise no rain after 9am cloudy all day and busy with folk and many visitors attending.

We may now have been at Pendeen for 25 years but with covid year out, 2027 will be our actual 25th year operating here. Six years before on a Saturday morning during the Summer at Rockbank (Cavanna entrance) raising money for our local Methodist Church. From day one Pendeen still under the Methodists just grew and grew until we couldn’t have their backing anymore.

Just looking after our regulars keeping our pitch fees fair for all. Buyers came and travelled by word of mouth to make Pendeen what it is today. City folk came preferring our site which has a terrific view to the South and East with the West built on and Northern estate overlooking with plenty of footfall on the spot safely accessing.

Saturdays were easier to organise 10am – 12 no toilets in those days. From small beginnings at Rockbank pitch fees £3. 1996 Summer, few traders but folk still as today bought and inflated the price to their stall on the same day. Back then we were happy to have three sellers or go into the teens, when another organisation had an evening sale there were over 50 sellers at Rockbank that was huge in those early days but a one off no toilets as the sales didn’t last long.

For some reason at Pendeen we have sellers arriving before 6.30am and some still packing up gone 5pm What has gone wrong lol.
Yes, we went from a later sale to a bit earlier and now an all-day sale which suits so many. No wonder we need nine Porto Loos. Being dog friendly has helped numbers we love having dogs on site and ours love the car boots sales and so disappointed when having to be left at home due to the heat. We can only advise and the messages given out say don’t leave dogs in cars and when notified we try an act and get the owners to comply. We know some car boot sales ban dogs being onsite mostly down to the landowner. Having organised sales now for thirty years dogs will always be welcome on the Pendeen site. We are not responsible for children or dogs it is down to the owners to be in control of them. We are running the sales for family's and dogs are part of the family. We know there are those that disagree and moan and yes there might be the incident where a dog wees over some items on the ground but such a rare occurrence with the Tanoy system and messages given out folk do take notice just as leaving the site litter free so we continue into 2027. 🙂 OPEN TOMORROW SUNDAY JULY 5th a dry day forecast. 🙂

Sunday July 5th forecast is onside so Pendeen will open as normal.🙂

Just July, August and September to go now for 2026.

13 Sundays and a bank holiday Monday end of August 31st.

Looking ahead to next season Easter 2027 is early Sunday March 28th and B.H.Monday 29th that all depends on if the site allows us to open around then.

As long as the site is kept litter free and so much help at present, we continue. Our VOLUNTEERS are a tremendous asset in the smooth running of Pendeen. The boss Karl is unable to be there on the gate this Sunday so once again I revive my old role as Sunday 5th July looks to be dry.

Donations for Sunday June 28th £446.95 folk are so generous and willing to spend if items on sale suit. The last couple of weeks some of our regular sellers have been missing for one reason or another.

133 sellers on site still such a worthwhile car boot sale to travel to with ease of entering and leaving.

THANK YOU for donating, THANK YOU to John, Pat, Shirley, Cynthia and Michael for holding the buckets. We are so thankful when we can achieve this amount, raising the total to date to £5,602.31 for the League of Friends of Stratton Hospital. So grateful. 🙂
