This is something I like to discuss with customers who choose us for braking solutions and with the help of AI it can now be presented in a format which is easy on the eye and can be saved for reference.
Customers usually ask for a disc to be X diameter, thickness they rarely mention but it helps more than you think. So does the internal vane count and vane structure of the disc. Get it wrong and you can be wasting your money and losing out in lap times or reliability.
Shown below is an example of 4 discs available from AP Racing in 295x28mm. As you will see, some are lighter, some have more vanes inside. This makes a difference to how the disc heats up and cools down. A major factor in disc performance and reliability (not cracking). Getting a discs up to its performance window and keeping it there during race use and cooling it back down is important.
