Have you driven in flip flops ?
Driving in flip flops might seem harmless, but it can actually land you with a careless driving charge if they affect your control of the car. Rule 97 of the Highway Code says you need to wear footwear that allows you to use the controls properly and safely.
Flip flops can easily slip off, get stuck under the pedals, or stop you braking properly in an emergency β and that split second could cause an accident.
If police believe your footwear contributed to unsafe driving or a collision, you could be charged with driving without due care and attention. That can mean a Β£100 fine and 3 points on your licence.
If it ends up going to court, the penalties can be much more serious β fines up to Β£5,000, up to 9 penalty points, or even a driving ban.
