Luckily we can still find the fish back here in Essex. There's a huge amount of life out there at the moment. The dogfish are in vast numbers. I'm sure you will all be excited to hear that! However in between them we've been finding a few different species.
The whiting aren't in properly yet but we've had a few. We did catch a dab too. But things are a bit confusing. Traditionally we would expect thorn-back rays and the autumn run of starting. However as both of those are pretty much out of the picture we are seeing other stuff in their place.
We had a baby tope yesterday and quite a few small hounds relatively close inshore still.
Luckily there were a few bass mixed in too. Several undersize and a few over the size limit which were gratefully received. Jimmy even managed to get his quota of 3! Hopefully we get some weather and head offshore later this week.

As it's been a broadcast weekend have another clip from aboard the Ross Revenge (radio caroline).
This time from right on top of the wheelhouse roof. I'd never been up there before this to be honest. I give you a glimpse of the current mast. It's actually a third of the size of the original transmission mast! However it helps her continue to look the part.
Fund raising and preparation continues for her dry dock in Hull in the near future.

It's been a while and as several tours were cancelled due to the weather today I thought I'd share some clips from the Ross Revenge (radio caroline). This is looking out from bridge and showing the comparison to Galloper. I'll post some more soon. Look at that navigation equipment! They covered some miles and caught a lot of fish with this stuff!

As I'm back in Essex I thought I'd better report on our last trip here. It was typically blustery but we managed to get far enough offshore to find plenty of bass for the lads. We had to Kiss a lot of frogs to win a prince but after a move around we found a better stamp of fish. The lads had plenty for the table as well as a few baby tope and hounds.
There's plenty of dogfish and whiting around inshore and the mild weather has kept a few bass close in too. We will continue to see a few rays, bass and hounds mixed in on our general trips. The best of the bass fishing will be offshore for the next couple of months as the autumn run feeds up.

I don't know why but I found the sight of a submarine a little unnerving. I think it's the idea that it could have been underneath us at some point 😳. We passed this one twice in the same day several miles apart.

It seems like the bass want to be with us everywhere! Michael couldn't miss the other day! We had some great sport with bass between the tuna and sharks from Falmouth. I'm heading heading back to Essex now.
