Huge thanks to Paul Winter and crew for yesterday's day out on Maria CK21. Martyn Bradfield invited me to join them for a go at stow-boat fishing. Due to issues with the fishing equipment things didn't quite go to plan and we missed the flood tide on the blackwater, but we managed to successfully re set on the Colne for the ebb and made a small catch of spratt and herring.

As many of you are now aware, after careful consideration and family discussions, I have decided to retire from sailmaking.

This means that I will cease trading and will be vacating the sail loft on the 31st March 2025 . This enables me to complete the orders that I have in hand, but does mean that I cannot take on any new work.

I have been honoured to work on some fantastic bespoke projects and I thank everyone who entrusted me to undertake their commissions. Big thanks also go to Mark and Sara Butler whose belief in my abilities gave me the confidence to go it alone.

The biggest thanks of all go to my wife Ali, who supported me from the outset and made everything possible. Not only was Ali my I.T. support and administrator, when needed she willingly pitched in at the sail loft as the extra pair of hands.

We are looking forward to spending more time together as we explore this next chapter in our lives.

Sometimes it's the small things in life. Today I am making a new door for a pavilion tent and I didn't like seeing the raw edge of the window panel on the old door so I have made the replacement slightly differently and to my mind neater.

Today is our favourite day of the year - Winter Solstice.

From today, we start to get a little more daylight each day until that glorious moment in the spring when we feel the warm sun and go sailing again.

And, of course, it’s only 3 days until Christmas!
