We took the M-Tech works van to Beaulieu yesterday for the Mini Cooper Register Mini Day. A great drive and a fantastic show in the summer sun. The van was in great company with 14 other vans spotted at the show!

A lovely blast from the past yesterday!

I was in hospital yesterday for a scheduled procedure. What I wasn’t expecting was to be greeted by the anaesthetist and realise he was someone I knew from many years ago!

It turned out to be Andrew, the owner of M-Tech Mini Countryman Sport CS4, which we custom built for him back in 2003. Finished in beautiful Island Blue with an electric roof and navy interior, it was one of those cars that has always stuck in my memory.

It was fantastic to catch up and hear that, over 20 years later, he still owns the Mini and it’s still in superb condition. For a number of years it was his daily transport, but these days it enjoys a much more relaxed life, only coming out for special occasions and sunny days.

As restorers and builders, we spend countless hours creating these cars, but we don’t always get to see where their stories lead. Hearing that one of our creations is still being cherished more than two decades later is incredibly rewarding.

Great to see you again, Andrew, even if it wasn’t quite under the circumstances either of us expected!

Bonus photo of Andrew with CS4 shortly after completion back in 2003. Doesn’t seem possible that was over 20 years ago! 😊

Some cars are more than just cars.

Back in 1993, Dee’s father bought her a brand new Mini Italian Job. It was her very first car, and like many first cars, it became part of her life story.

Eventually the Mini was sold and disappeared from sight. For years, Dee wondered what had become of it.

Determined to find out, she began researching the car’s history and, against all odds, managed to track it down. Even more remarkably, she was able to buy back the very same Mini she’d owned from new over 30 years ago.

Wanting to return the car to its former glory, Dee searched for a specialist with a reputation for quality workmanship, originality and attention to detail. We’re incredibly grateful that, following recommendations from numerous members of the Mini community and online forums, she entrusted M-Tech with the next chapter of the car’s life.

This week we’ve begun the strip-down process.

As expected, there are some challenges ahead, but that’s all part of the journey. Every nut and bolt removed reveals another piece of the Mini’s story and helps us understand exactly what will be needed to give it the future it deserves.

Some of our long-standing followers may remember another Mini Italian Job restoration we completed several years ago. By a strange coincidence, that car was finished in the same colour as Dee’s, making this project feel a little bit special from the outset.

Our aim is simple: to preserve as much of the car’s character and history as possible while returning it to the condition that made Dee fall in love with it all those years ago.

We’re looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

After all, not many people get the chance to be reunited with their very first car.

📸 Strip-down photos coming soon. Keep an eye on the page to follow the story.

A familiar face back through the doors this week 👋

Ian’s Morris Minor Traveller has returned for a gearbox swap along with an upgrade to the rear wheels and tyres — a nice little refresh to keep it driving just right.

This one’s got a bit of history with us too… it’s the same car we built the engine for and supercharged a few years back, so it’s always good to see it come back for more.

Ian’s getting ready to head off to France for a big classic car show in a few weeks, so it was time to get everything dialled in and the car in top condition for the journey 🇫🇷🚗

Great to see this one back at M-Tech recently.

Dario popped in with his gorgeous tweed grey 1966 Mk1 Mini Super Deluxe, a car we carried out bodyshell restoration work on a number of years ago (some of you may remember it from a previous post- https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18cQ4FGZYt/?mibextid=wwXIfr).

Since then, Dario has taken on the full build himself, and what a job he’s done. The aim was a sympathetic restoration, keeping as much originality as possible, and it really shows. A huge amount of time has gone into sourcing original and OEM parts to keep the car true to how it should be.

He’s also had the benefit of guidance from Garry Dickens, a real authority on early Minis, which has no doubt helped keep everything spot on.

The result is a beautifully put together Mk1 that just feels right in every detail. Always nice for us to see a project come back full circle like this 👍

This Mini is now for sale, due to a change of circumstances. Contact us for details.

Bit of a throwback post… we’ve been flat out in the workshop so this one took a while to make it onto the grid.

This Mini belongs to Josh and originally came in for a few small jobs along with one of our thorough M-Tech inspections. The plan was fairly simple… convert to 10” wheels with disc brakes to suit, carry out a Stage 1 upgrade and retune, and tidy up a few minor issues.

As is often the case, once we got properly into the inspection things escalated.

What started as a light refresh turned into a much more involved job. The rear subframe was replaced following significant body repairs, and the front subframe and engine were removed to deal with seized top arm pins and to fit a new clutch, clutch actuator and primary gear seal.

Suspension was upgraded with adjustable platforms, improved rubber springs and matched shock absorbers to sharpen things up properly as well as every rubber bush.

We also carried out a fair bit of electrical work, sorting and improving various circuits, along with a number of smaller upgrades across the car to bring it up to the standard we’re happy with.

A great little Mini now properly sorted and ready to be enjoyed as it should be.

An enjoyable drive and morning spent at the first of the year Southwest classic club meet at Trago Mills today.
A decent showing of classic Minis and great to meet some of the owners.
Feel free to tag if you are/know the owner.
