So with a phone call from a fisherman who has had a very bad experience from a ‘so called’ professional north west marine engineer who he had instructed to install two brand new iveco N60 engines.
Well the steam home he smelled burning, investigating the situation showed up the guy had simply not aligned the engines at all and the were rubbing the bottom of the stern tubes.
He called and asked if I could help him.
Anyway a short 5 hour drive to catch a ferry to the Isle Of Man, work began by removing rudders, shafts, seals, props cutless bearings etc.
Stern tubes were cleaned of grease and lightly sanded inside to remove the debris. (Made an on-site sweeper style sander) 😂
2 new sections were spigoted onto the existing tubes and glasses in making the damaged sections hood and strong again.
New cutless bearings, new shafts installed and engines fully aligned bang on.
3 long hard days graft but a happy fisherman now ready to go back to work.
For me another mamouth 10 hour journey back home.
No job too small or too far away.
A big thanks to Martin of Lentern engineering for the lathe work turning down the added sections of stern tubes.
Thank you to the Isle Of Man for the hospitality and also the boatyard and B&B for being very helpful.
