Traffic, roadworks, the busy Longfield roundabout, and the steep West Ashton Road hill were no match for Latifah, who followed a satnav for the drive and rounded it off with a spot-on forward bay park.

I am thrilled to congratulate Pinto on successfully passing her practical driving test first time at Trowbridge Test Centre Pinto Successfully Passed her Practical Driving Test 1st Time at Trowbridge Driving Test Centre

Trowbridge is a varied market town, but genuinely a mixture of challenging driving conditions, a place to learn to drive. The DVSA test centre is based at Longfield Community Centre on Weavers Drive, just north of the town centre, and routes from here take in a real mix of conditions: busy town-centre mini-roundabouts, the fast-flowing A361 County Way ring road, and quieter residential streets around the Longfield and Broadmead estates. Independent driving sections often pass close to Trowbridge Park and the town’s museum, and candidates can expect anything from tight canal-side lanes to the wide multi-lane Trowbridge Roundabout where the A361 meets the A363.

James was a great student who quickly grasped the importance of safety as his confidence built throughout his lessons. His test was taken on another busy day on the Yeovil roads — routes from Yeovil Driving Test Centre on Preston Road are well known locally for mixing residential 20mph grids around Abbey Manor Park with the changing speed limits along Preston Road and Sherborne Road (A30), out onto the faster-flowing A3088 Cartgate Link, and back into busy town-centre traffic. For a learner travelling in from Chard — around 12 miles southwest along the A30 — that meant plenty of practice adjusting from quieter approach roads onto Yeovil’s busier, more built-up streets. Independent driving sections often pass close to Vivary Park and Taunton Castle, so candidates need to combine confident dual-carriageway driving with sharp observation through busy town streets — a route that rewards exactly the kind of well-rounded skills Charlie showed on the day.

Charlie’s drive included a right reverse park, a number of hill starts, and satnav for the independent element — all handled with real composure to seal a well-deserved pass.

First Time Pass for Ryan from Bath in Chippenham Wiltshire
Ryan’s test was a mid-morning appointment that combined both rural and urban driving, made all the more challenging by local roadworks along the way. Chippenham’s DVSA test centre is based at Unit 11, Cavalier Court, Bumpers Farm, just off the A350, and routes from here typically mix fast-flowing dual carriageway sections like West Cepen Way with busy roundabouts such as Bumpers Farm and Rowden Hill, before heading into the town centre around The Bridge Centre and the railway station. For Ryan, travelling in from Bath — around 12 miles away along the A4 and A46 — that meant plenty of practice moving between open, rural approach roads and Chippenham’s busier, more built-up centre, exactly the kind of contrast his test route delivered.

Ryan handled the changeable conditions and roadworks with real composure, rounding off his drive with a reverse bay park to seal a well-deserved first-time pass.
