This 5.0 V8 Range Rover came into LDR with a rattling timing chain. We diagnosed that there was a failure of the timing chain tensioner.

What is a timing chain tensioner and why is it so important?
- It applies pressure against a guide rail to remove slack. This prevents the chain from slipping, which prevents valves and pistons from crashing into each other.
- It compensates for the engine wear. This means that when your engine’s parts get looser and degraded over time, it prevents more strain on these worn components.
- It reduces the chain rattling or slapping against the engine cover.

The main reason that this tensioner is so important is that it keeps the crankshaft and camshafts in sync with each other, which allows the engine to run smoothly.

We are seeing a lot of these DC to DC converters fail on mild hybrid vehicles.
This usually causes “charging system fault” to be displayed on your cars instrument cluster, to alert the driver about an issue.
This can cause a flat battery when the vehicle is left overnight.
This one showed signs of a thermal event happening.

A replacement module was fitted and programmed to the car. The vehicle was then returned to the customer.

If you have any questions about something Land Rover related then please give us a call on 01344 202 202 or email us at [email protected].
