Spring is coming!

But we're still seeing a lot of vehicles coming in damaged by potholes.
So just a reminder, while we're still getting all this wet weather, be careful of driving through puddles in the road....they might be deeper than they look!

If we could have a wish list, what would it look like?....

*Please make sure you have fuel in the vehicle, road tests and emissions tests use fuel!

*We don't expect it to be valeted, but please clear your rubbish out.

*Keep your locking wheel nut key in the vehicle, we might need them, and so might you in an emergency!

*If you're coming in for an MOT, please, please, please check your tyres first.

*Don't leave things to the last minute, we'll try and help, but we get very busy.

*Please allow us the time we need, we know you're busy, but we are too.

*And finally, please call if you need to cancel; someone else could have that time slot.

We're closing our doors for the holidays on the 21st and re-opening on January 2nd 2024.

Normally at this time of year we'd be advising you to bring your car in to re-charge the air conditioning, but as we all know it's not great for fuel economy.

So what can we do to get more mileage for our cash?
Well, regular maintenance and servicing improves the efficiency of your vehicle, and therefore can improve your fuel consumption.
But we do understand that money is tight these days, so here's a few tips.

Tyre pressures can have a huge effect on fuel economy, and will vary depending on the load you are carrying: if you have four passengers and luggage then you will need your tyres inflated to the maximum recommended pressures.

Don’t leave your roof bars and roof box on if you're not using them- they create wind resistance and cause your car to use more fuel through the ‘drag’ effect. This is increased the faster you drive.

An empty roof rack adds 16% drag when driving at 75mph. At the same speed a roof box adds 39%, making your vehicle much less fuel efficient.

Lose weight! Don’t keep unnecessary items in your boot as they all add weight to your vehicle, which is not going to help your fuel economy in the long run.

If the budget won't stretch to a service, a check over is a good idea, then we can check all the levels and adjust your tyre pressures.

As promised here are some tips to keeps you driving safely on the winter roads.

Tyres-Underinflated and worn tyres can cause accidents. The minimum tyre tread limit is 1.6mm, but it's recommend that tyres are replaced at 3mm to maintain the best safety. An illegal tyre fine could cost as much as £2500 and 3 points PER TYRE! Not to mention compromising your safety and that of your passengers and other road users.

Lights-Need to be clean, bright and fully functioning.

Battery-A weak battery can let you down, just one sharp frost can finish it off.

Windscreens-Did you know if you drive without clearing your windscreen, you could be in for a £100 fine and 3 penalty points?
Get your air-conditioning re-gassed to clear the inside quickly, and use warm water to clear ice on the outside. Don't be tempted to use hot water as this may crack the glass, and aerosol de-icers can rot the rubber sills.

Wipers-Make sure wipers clear the screen properly, and anti-freeze is at the correct strength. Always return the wipers to the scuttle before you switch the car engine off. If you start the car with the wipers stuck to the windscreen you might burn out the wiper motor.
