CARAVAN SERVICING IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!

a statement i see all to often on caravanning pages etc when the subject comes up.

well, i can explain with pictures alone , and i have 100s more of why it “IS” important…

i mean, if you think it isn’t, then id just say .. you do you, but should anything happen to your caravan , for example, damage from a blown out tyre , or it goes up in flames due to an electrical fault, or even worse when it comes to things like carbon monoxide.. just remember that your insurance probably wont cover you either , unless its serviced annually ( some state every 2 years)

having regular inspections keeps you safe , the people in and around your caravan/motorhome safe , it helps maintain value in your investment, and prevents costly repairs down the line when bigger problems arise .
it also means trouble free holidays, i mean.. who wants to get on site to find you have no hot water , the fridge doesn’t keep the beer cold 😱 and the toilet wont flush? 🤷‍♂️

sometimes you cant simply “buy” trims and fixtures, so we make them from scratch, such as this strut in a lunar caravan that was damaged due to water ingress. weve seen repairs where other methods have been used , mismatched wood and plastic trims which is ok , but we strive to keep our damp repairs as close to factory design as possible .

servicing this 20 year old caravan recently, it was purchased privately and the new owner wanted peace of mind it was all safe and ready to go.. it was actually a very well maintained caravan , almost like brand new inside and out , but problems can still lurk even on well looked after units .

unexpected job of the day.

on our way home we saw a caravan with a complete blow out stranded at the side of the m1 .

we put our beacons on and pulled over safely in the yellow emergency area and made sure everyone was ok. the occupants of the vehicle were an older couple with their grandkids in the back seat, it must have been quite an ordeal.

due to unknown whereabouts or eta on the AA , we decided to call them and cancel the call out, we got the spare wheel to the correct tyre pressure , removed the wheel with the blown out tyre and fitted the spare , whilst the family remained safely away from the carriageway.

we then rang it in with highways to close lane 1 between junction 29 and 29a to ensure we could all pull out safely and be on our way again.

whilst in the lay-by , another car pulled up , overheating and had no coolant in the header tank, we got that topped up too so they could at least reach the next services .

we didn’t charge for any of the above, knowing we got these people safely on their way again was payment enough.

however..

this does emphasise how critical tyre safety is ! and why having your caravan serviced annually can really pay off, situations like this can often be much worse!

please dont risk it.

solar install completed this morning,

just a quick one , i do apologise if its taking me a little while to get back to you, i am genuinely pulling 12 hour days at the moment to try and keep you all running, i am putting things into priority order too with jobs not already booked , so please bare in mind , when your toilet flush isn’t working and i’m telling you sorry , its going to be a few weeks until i can get to you, i can assure you, someone else is having more pressing problems such as faulty brakes , no heating or hot water , a flat tyre or its raining inside the caravan .

i do appreciate being busy, and i appreciate all that put their trust in me to look after their pride and joys .

thank you,
Dan

another axle removed and completely overhauled , upon service we found there was less than 20mm clearance between the tyre and arch , in previous cases this has led to the tyre wearing through the arch liner and damaging internal wiring and other components, i think we caught this one just in time , a new axle from Alko can cost in excess of £2500 and thats before shipping and fitting, we can remove your axle , have it not only repaired , but upgraded with higher quality components and bushings to last a lifetime of safe towing, including removal and refitting .. for less than £1600!

Sprite Major for a major damp repair including shower upgrade,

a crack in the top corner had been letting water in for quite some time , causing extensive damage to the shower area and floor beneath the shower tray,

we had to start by completing gutting the area of all rotten wood and boarding, including the floor area , both inside the caravan and on the exterior underside .

then it was a case of removing rails, repairing the roof crack, rebuilding all the timber frame works internally and externally , refitting the rails and new rail insert trims and re boarding the underside corners with marine grade ply which is also undersealed once fitted.

once we were certain absolutely no moisture could get in, we replaced the shower walls with more modern, hygienic gloss plastic shower boards , ( as opposed to the standard wooden shower boards) along with refitting the shower tray and associated waste and fresh water plumbing.

once all sealants and finishes had cured we made some final checks to ensure everything was working with no leaks and then lastly, an internal work area valet, as you can imagine this is a messy job and our damp repairs are always returned in a clean and tidy manner! no more damp wood smell, just fresh, clean and dry, ready for the season!

the result of towing whilst the hand brake is engaged. these brake drums had gotten so hot they quite literally melted and fell apart whilst towing, as well as destroying the drums and brake shoes, it meant new adjusters, bearings, fitting kit and other parts were required to get this one safe to tow again.
luckily no further damage to anything else and more importantly no one got hurt. and yes, modern cars , particularly SUVs such as Range rovers etc will pull a caravan even with the brakes engaged!

before towing just do a walk around , double check the handbrake is down ( all the way) make sure wiring and break-away cables are correctly routed , and a wise doctor once told me you should always check your nuts! 🙈 🥜 🛞
