🔥 GAS! 🔥

Just because everything appears to be working doesn’t necessarily mean it’s working safely.

During carbon monoxide testing on this particular service, we found that one of the hob burners was producing some considerably curious combustion! 😬

The cause? A slightly blocked gas jet.

It’s easy to underestimate how small these jets actually are — the opening that feeds the hob is around the size of a pin hole, so it doesn’t take much dirt or debris to start affecting the burner and the way it burns.

I even tried to get a picture of the obstruction, but as you can imagine, something that tiny isn’t exactly easy to photograph!

Thankfully, this one was a simple fix: the jet was cleaned, refitted and the appliance retested.

The result? 🔥 A clean, efficient and safe flame, with a CO reading of 0 parts per million. ✅

So, do you know the signs of a problem with your gas flame?

⚠️ Weak flames
⚠️ Flickering flames
⚠️ Yellow or orange-tipped flames
⚠️ Anything that looks noticeably different from normal

These can all be signs that something isn’t quite right.

A correctly burning gas appliance should generally produce a steady blue flame.

It’s a good reminder that gas appliances can appear to be working perfectly while still having an underlying issue — which is why proper servicing and combustion testing are so important.

Gas safety isn’t just about whether it works. It’s about whether it works safely. 🔧🔥

Another Axle job completed! 🔧

During the service, we found that the axle rubbers had compressed, allowing the swing arm to sit considerably higher than it should. This had caused some slight, repairable damage to the inner arch lining.

Thankfully, it was caught in good time before any further damage could occur.

The axle has now been restored to the correct position, with the caravan sitting exactly as it should. This will not only improve the ride height but also make for a much smoother and more comfortable towing experience.

Another job done and another caravan back on the road looking and towing as it should! 🚐👌

Just a quick courtesy announcement regarding outstanding invoices.

At the moment, there is over £1,000 in unpaid invoices across the business. While some of these are for relatively small amounts, they soon add up and have a real impact on a small business like mine.

Just to clarify, the parts I fit and supply aren’t being funded by a large company — they’re paid for directly out of my own pocket. I’ve also started using Square invoicing to make things as easy as possible for everyone, including the option to pay by Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit or credit card. There is a processing cost to me for this service, which I don’t pass on to customers.

I appreciate that some invoices are due to be paid today or over the weekend, and that’s absolutely fine. However, there are also a few outstanding invoices dating back as far as May, so I’d really appreciate these being brought up to date.

If you’re unable to pay an invoice immediately, there’s no problem at all — just drop me a message and let me know when you expect to be able to pay, rather than leaving it outstanding with no communication.

As a small business, I work hard to keep my prices fair and provide a good service. Keeping a significant amount of money tied up in unpaid invoices makes an already demanding business much more difficult to run.

🔧 Axle refurbishment on this Buccaneer

This one came in with an issue where one side of the axle had started to slide out of the outer frame. This had left one wheel sitting noticeably further out than the other three, causing it to catch on the wheel spat and, more importantly, meaning the caravan wasn’t running true when being towed.

The axle was removed and given a complete strip-down and refurbishment, getting everything back where it should be and ensuring the caravan is running correctly and safely again.

While it was with us, we also carried out a full service, replaced a leaking gas pipe and took care of a few other minor maintenance.

📅 A quick update on availability

I’ve done my absolute best this month to get around to everyone. I know some of you are still waiting for dates and availability, so please bear with me!

It’s been an absolutely manic few weeks. There have been plenty of days where I haven’t put the tools down until gone 8pm, and working in the heat we’ve been having has been horrendous at times! 🥵

I’m now off on a much-needed holiday next week, heading to Tenerife in search of some slightly cooler weather! ☀️✈️🤣

That said, I’ll still be doing my best to get dates sent out when I’m sat by the pool 🍹😂, and I’ll continue to reply to messages and queries whenever I can.

Normal service will resume after a bit of sun, sea , riding motorbikes in one of my favourite places and hopefully a lot less sweating! 😂🔧

big Damp job on this motorhome .full wall on the dinette area which required extensive strip down of all furnishing, belted seats , boiler , and other fittings , timber work , new seals , trims , board , basically a complete overhaul of the offside in that area , and then re boarding the overcab bed walls . complete reseal and even tidied the paintwork up a little with ALOT of polishing involved .

all in all , bringing this 20 year old motorhome back up to spec and looking brand new once again! 😎

i know many of you are awaiting dates , quotes and everything else but please bare with us , its been an incredibly busy time and we aim to get back to everyone by the end of monday .

CARAVAN SERVICING IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME!

a statement i see all to often on caravanning pages etc when the subject comes up.

well, i can explain with pictures alone , and i have 100s more of why it “IS” important…

i mean, if you think it isn’t, then id just say .. you do you, but should anything happen to your caravan , for example, damage from a blown out tyre , or it goes up in flames due to an electrical fault, or even worse when it comes to things like carbon monoxide.. just remember that your insurance probably wont cover you either , unless its serviced annually ( some state every 2 years)

having regular inspections keeps you safe , the people in and around your caravan/motorhome safe , it helps maintain value in your investment, and prevents costly repairs down the line when bigger problems arise .
it also means trouble free holidays, i mean.. who wants to get on site to find you have no hot water , the fridge doesn’t keep the b**r cold 😱 and the toilet wont flush? 🤷‍♂️

sometimes you cant simply “buy” trims and fixtures, so we make them from scratch, such as this strut in a lunar caravan that was damaged due to water ingress. weve seen repairs where other methods have been used , mismatched wood and plastic trims which is ok , but we strive to keep our damp repairs as close to factory design as possible .

servicing this 20 year old caravan recently, it was purchased privately and the new owner wanted peace of mind it was all safe and ready to go.. it was actually a very well maintained caravan , almost like brand new inside and out , but problems can still lurk even on well looked after units .

unexpected job of the day.

on our way home we saw a caravan with a complete blow out stranded at the side of the m1 .

we put our beacons on and pulled over safely in the yellow emergency area and made sure everyone was ok. the occupants of the vehicle were an older couple with their grandkids in the back seat, it must have been quite an ordeal.

due to unknown whereabouts or eta on the AA , we decided to call them and cancel the call out, we got the spare wheel to the correct tyre pressure , removed the wheel with the blown out tyre and fitted the spare , whilst the family remained safely away from the carriageway.

we then rang it in with highways to close lane 1 between junction 29 and 29a to ensure we could all pull out safely and be on our way again.

whilst in the lay-by , another car pulled up , overheating and had no coolant in the header tank, we got that topped up too so they could at least reach the next services .

we didn’t charge for any of the above, knowing we got these people safely on their way again was payment enough.

however..

this does emphasise how critical tyre safety is ! and why having your caravan serviced annually can really pay off, situations like this can often be much worse!

please dont risk it.
