XPAG rear lip seal conversion
This is why the rear crank lip seal conversions when incorrectly fitted simply do not work.
When fitted correctly, they are absolutely oil tight. It’s fitting of the rear seal kit to this standard that gives it such a bad reputation which it does not deserve.
Look how the customer has fitted the speedy sleeve/shaft repair sleeve and has left the fitting fl**ge still attached. This is the turned up piece on the very edge that is used for tapping on the sleeve. This should be cut off prior to fitting the crank, but it hasn’t been.
Also, he’s fitted a spacer ring to bring the seal out towards the flywheel making the face of the seal rub against the back of the flywheel.
They’ve also not removed any of the ID of the rear main cap to allow oil flow
Along with this, they have only one oil return hole which is nowhere near sufficient. You need three 6 1/2 mm holes to allow the oil flow back into the sump.
Adding to this the oil return tube which is about 3 inches long has been left uncut and therefore creates a backup of the oil into the rear seal housing
I’m not surprised that this Engine has come to us with the customer saying that it is pouring oil out of the rear end
Good news is when Im finished with it it will be dusty not oily
