The provisional Royal Blue Run details have been released. The run will take place between 19 and 21 June 2026 and will cover the following basic route.

Friday 19th June
Basingstoke to Taunton, via Stockbridge, Salisbury, Blandford, Dorchester, Weymouth and Yeovil.

Saturday 20th June
Taunton to Barnstaple, via Exeter, Okehampton, Bude and Bideford.

Sunday 21st June
Barnstaple to Yeovil, via Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Lynton, Minehead and Bridgwater.

My Bristol RE 1482 / RDV433H will be participating in most of that run. Here we see it leaving London's Victoria Coach Station at the start of the 2022 run.

Although there was no post to this page during December, progress continued slowly. Both rear springs have now been removed ready for refurbishment. Also, before chassis welding could commence, it was necessary to remove some very awkward spring brackets and some hardwood blocks.

The remaining replacement coolant hose has finally been replaced following an unexpected and awkward aluminium panel repair that had to be completed beforehand.

I’ve found more galvanic corrosion between steel and aluminium surfaces in the offside front wheel arch area (see red arrows). As the Bristol LS bus is 70 years old this year, such corrosion isn’t unexpected. I normally use thin silicone rubber sheet between steel and aluminium surfaces when undertaking repairs.

The horizontal aluminium folded bracket will probably be replaced. On the right hand side, the body mounting bracket will need further assessment before deciding how to repair this. It may be preferable to replace the bracket. Whatever, the failed rivets shown by the green arrow will be replaced by bolts and nuts.

The steel chassis in this area will be wire-brushed, treated and painted in due course. The almost non-existent steel wiring conduits will be replaced as part of this task.
