The Simplicity of Siphoning

The majority of people's understanding of fuel theft is based on what they read/hear about in the Press: namely incidents whereby large volumes of fuel are stolen (often by organised Gangs) from single locations.

In reality this type of siphoning is rare. Far more prevalent are incidences of smaller volumes of fuel being stolen from Truck Fuel Tanks, a practice known as 'skimming'. This lower volume of fuel theft (20-25 litres) is small enough to not be noticed as an 'anomaly' on fuel figures, yet remain large enough to put a significant dent on a Truck Operator's bottom line, particularly if this practice occurs on a regular basis.

Certainly 20-25 litres is enough to fill a Jerry Can to siphon the fuel into an Individual's Car Tank, as is evident in this Video Clip (see below).
