*GAME CHANGER OR GIMMICK? Plug-in Solar Panels Hit UK Shelves For The First Time! *

From THIS WEEK, you can walk into Argos and buy a DIY solar panel that plugs straight into a normal wall socket - no roof, no scaffolding, no electrician needed.

For the first time in the UK, millions of people living in flats and rented homes can generate their own electricity just by hanging a panel on their balcony or garden fence.

**The details:**
* Argos will be first to sell them this week, with Amazon, Currys, B&Q and Screwfix to follow within weeks
* Prices from £400-£500 depending on capacity
* Capped at 800W - enough for up to 20% of daytime electricity use and to save around £110 a year on bills
* You still need landlord / freeholder permission if you rent

This is already huge in Germany and Spain where they're called "Balkonkraftwerk".

**So BBNews family, we want to know - WHAT DO YOU THINK?**

Is this a brilliant win for renters and flat-dwellers who have been locked out of solar for years?

Or is it a rip-off? £500 upfront to save £110 a year means almost 5 years just to break even - and will landlords even allow it?

And the big safety question: Should anyone be allowed to plug power-generating kit into their own socket?

👇 **YES - Brilliant idea, about time!** or **NO - Too expensive, too risky?** Let us know in the comments.

This white van on Clifton Street has been spotted collecting parking tickets daily — 5 yellow tickets in the windscreen — while traders and shoppers say they're desperate for a parking space.

📍 Clifton Street, Blackpool

Customers are circling the street looking for a space, while this van sits in a prime bay gathering tickets instead of moving.

At what point should a vehicle with multiple unpaid tickets be removed? Is it time for tougher enforcement, or is parking in central Blackpool just too difficult?

What do you think? 👇

"USE US OR LOSE US" — LYTHAM TRADERS RAISE THE ALARM 🚨

Independent business owners in Lytham are urging shoppers to support local high street trade before it’s too late.

While footfall appears high during major events and sunny weekends, local traders say regular weekday support is critical to keeping independent doors open across the Fylde coast.

👉 How often do you consciously choose local independents over online or big chains? Let's discuss in the comments.

90,000 jobs paid for by the Government. Good idea or just sticking a plaster on a broken system?

Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden says 90,000 fully-funded jobs for 18-24 year olds will be created by 2029. Firms like Boots and John Lewis get funding to pay young people minimum wage for 25 hours a week for 6 months. Part of a £2.5bn plan to tackle youth unemployment.

On paper it sounds great. But let's talk about Blackpool.

We have one of the highest rates of youth unemployment and long-term sickness / NEETs in the country. We have kids here who haven't had a proper opportunity in years. Will a 6-month placement at minimum wage in a big chain actually change their lives? Or will they be back on Universal Credit in month 7?

Some questions we should be asking:

**1. Is it real work or cheap labour for big business?** Boots and John Lewis don't exactly need a Government handout to hire staff. Are we subsidising companies that should be hiring anyway?

**2. What about Blackpool's small businesses?** The cafes, the hotels, the shops on Central Drive, the tradesmen who would LOVE to take on a young lad or lass but can't afford the insurance and paperwork. Why are the big corporates first in line?

**3. 25 hours a week.** You can't live on that in 2026. And after 6 months, what then? No guarantee of a real job.

On the other hand - is *something* better than nothing? If it gets 90,000 young people off benefits, into a routine, learning to turn up on time, working with customers - isn't that worth £2.5bn?

What's your take? Especially if you're a young person in Blackpool or an employer.

Is this a genuine Jobs Guarantee or just a 6-month guarantee before they're back to square one?

🚨 MAJOR BISPHAM REVAMP & A £1 CHICKEN BURGER? 🍔✨

Big changes are coming to the Bispham coastline this week!

The well-known Harlands Hotel has officially rebranded as the Royal Bay Blackpool following an extensive refurbishment, marking an exciting new chapter for the venue.

Alongside the hotel revamp, the former Kesariya Fusion restaurant is relaunching under the Royal Bay banner — kicking things off in style this Friday, August 28th, with a vibrant, Bollywood-style launch night celebration! 🇮🇳🎉

What’s on the menu?
The new setup is turning heads with an ambitious food lineup of Indian and english dishes, including a fresh range of burgers featuring what’s believed to be Blackpool’s first £1 chicken burger! 💥

Great to see continued private investment, new dining concepts, and fresh energy pouring into our local hospitality sector across the Fylde coast.

👇 Will you be checking out the revamp or grabbing a £1 burger this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
