It’s a question more and more operators are asking, but making the switch can feel like a big commitment when you haven't tried it for yourself.

There’s a lot that’s new with the latest Isuzu Trucks range and one of the biggest changes is under the bonnet

Isuzu Trucks has introduced its new Isuzu Smooth Intelligent Transmission (ISIM), a 9-speed Dual Clutch AMT designed to make driving smoother while also helping improve fuel consumption

The new transmission is available with the 4JZ1 engine on the N55, N65, N75.150 and N75.175 models

For drivers, that means smoother gear changes and a more relaxed drive. For operators, the potential for better fuel economy

It’s another example of Isuzu updating the range while keeping the straightforward approach that operators have come to expect

⚡ Electric trucks are becoming a much more practical conversation ⚡

One of the biggest questions we hear from operators is simple: how would an electric truck actually work in our operation?

That’s what makes the Vertellus EV Discovery Programme, in partnership with Zenobē interesting.

Rather than making a long-term commitment straight away, the programme gives businesses the chance to run an electric truck for 12 months and see how it performs in their own day-to-day operation.

It also covers some of the practical challenges that come with making the switch, including charging, training and ongoing support.

There are a few different vehicle options available, so it’s not just about trying an electric truck for the sake of it. It’s about finding out whether it genuinely works for your business.

We’re seeing more operators take this approach, and it will be interesting to see how many more make the move to electric over the next few years.

A real blast from the past this week…

This 1986 Dodge Commando G10 was fitted with a Whiteacre crew cab and photographed in 1989, after coming to grief on a country road.

Pendle Council ran a large fleet of Commandos back in the day, with the trucks being used for just about every kind of local authority work you could think of. Tippers, road sweepers, refuse collectors, gritters and plenty of specialist vehicles.

It’s hard to imagine one truck range covering such a wide mix of jobs today, but that's exactly what these Commandos were doing.

Not quite how you'd want to see a truck, but it's certainly an interesting bit of local transport history.
