I've sourced an original Austin Morris colour / trim options booklet,
and I think its shown us the original colour of our 1974 MK3 Mini project!!

Some more jobs ticked off the list! And some more fresh metal replacing rusted out parts!

Rear quarter (arch to rear panel) replaced, and new half rear wheel arch fitted!

Looking loads better in there now!

Good progress on the rear of the MK3,

Battery box replaced, and rear wheel arch section cut out ready to replace and also gives access to repair some other bits too, like the rear of the quarter panel and leading into heel board / front of the quarter repairs.

A long form video of all of this work up to this point will be live on our YouTube channel in the next couple of days!

Next is to cut out and replace the rust corner of the quarter, cut out the nasty patches on the heel board, and then fit the new arch section.

Oh... and also, I think I've settled on a name... (Yes, I'm one of those sad, sad people 😂)

Every time I show someone the car or a picture, I find myself saying; it's quite rusty but not as bad as it looks....

So Rusty it is!

P.S. All minis need a name!!

A nice big box of panels for the MK3 reached me today from my favourite shop in the world! (M-Machine)

In there are all the parts I need to repair the boot floor, subframe mounts, and quarter panels, which will then leave me with only the front to worry about!

That'll keep me busy for a couple of weeks!!

Full steam ahead!!

Cracking on with the 1974 MK3 Saloon restoration,

I've got the first batch of panels ordered up at M-Machine,

While I wait for those to be ready , I got the wire wheel out and prepped the roof!

The roofs in pretty good shape, now it's cleaned off (lots of surface rust from being stood after blasting), there is some dents to see to and a couple very small repairs to be made to the gutters,

Then rust protection, paint and sealer will see the first part of this resto done!
Hopefully by the end of the weekend it'll be ticked off the jobs list and I can smash on with repairing the rear end!

Story time!

Ms Eds Mini Empire, has a fiesta. (Fantastic little car)

Recently she experienced gearbox troubles, specifically it was becoming difficult to select gears after a motorway drive over 15 20 mins or so. Will come out of gear, but will not select another. Eventually it does select and seems fine for a while. Short trips are fine.

First stop, gearbox oil level.... perfect.

Second stop, after a Google, is seized cables and selector mechanism. Cables are good, selector mechanism stripped and regreased. Problem still persists

Third stop... (last go before I take the gearbox out to see the clutch), what's the fluid like??

Pond water is what it's like 😵‍💫😱 (picture)

A thorough bleeding of the clutch hydraulic system and the tight gear select issue is all gone!!

(I am contractually obliged to tell you she did most of the work, all I did was suggested possible solutions and open the bleed screw for bleeding 😁😂)
