So we road tuned to our track civic on the new engine combo and then put it on the dyno both to get numbers and to try squeeze a bit more power out it.

We arrived with are base road tune made 352whp (395bhp) at 10.6 psi which is pretty good but we set around trying to improve it. Tuning it on the street with my homemade knock cannons ( at 10 psi we started to get knock at 18 degrees of timing so we pulled it back to 16 degrees this engine is higher compression than I wouldn’t like to run on boosted engine at 11:0 (comp pistons) so I suspected it would want a lot of timing with just pump fuel (Tesco momentum) .

Targeted 12.0 afr which where within 1 percent from target . We targeted 11.0 -12.5 afr really made real difference. So we settled at 12:0 afr target on wot 14.5/7 at cruise and idle

Are main gains came from intake cam angle changes ,

We started out at 45 degrees to 5500 rpm then tapered off to 30 degrees at 8200rpm(redline). We tried 35 degrees lose power so then we went the other at 25 degrees made a bit more at 356whp . Then we tried 20 degrees made 358whp. The we tried 15 degrees to make 360whp. K24s doesn’t like a lot of cam angle I find about 6000rpm with stock ish cams whether it’s na or boost.

Car already felt amazing to drive on the road power is relentless not like a turbo whack just constantly liner power .

We can get more power with a pulley change to a smaller supercharger pulley but this is the sweet spot with ep3 I think low 400s

Full stage 3 tune with tcu tune aswell. Logs showing 291 g/s on log. With zero timing pull

Another vag group mapped by the corner shop it seems. Customer complaint after having it mapped car was surging and undriveable . So before even looked into tuning we logged the car felt like driving a bucking bronco horric. Lambda control was fighting for its life pulling -26 percent and adding 26 percent in milliseconds to try meet target air fuel.

Smoke leak checked , found no leaks at all so we started are base calibration , found the 3 map sensor to be non genuine as the reading was 1180 mbar at idle should around 1000. Swapped that out for genuine unit and started again .

Car now pulls like an absolute freight train . Peak 296 g/s of mass air flow roughly equates 365-370bhp .

We are pretty much 100 percent and our boost controller.

Really happy with this one owner can’t finally have some fun .

And that’s ep3 finished for now .

Had to pull back the power a bit due to stock injectors maxing out. Hate pulling power out of a car but safety first . Will be back for sure once injectors are changed .

Str8 k24a no frank in for remap with skunk2 drop ins fitted by us . 3” exhaust skunk2 ultra street intake .

On haltech 1500 ecu . Bit of mild launch control also

Audi tts came in after owner was fed up changed every sensor in the engine bay , bodged wire car ran like dog p**p .

Sadly another garage just changing sensors as it’s the easiest thing to do. On inspection we found fuel trims all over the place map scaling seem to be off , like it was scaled for 2.5 bar map sensor which gave me my first clue , I suspected the ecu had been changed and had k03 base file on it . So we flashed a stock file back on the car fixed the bodged maf sensor wire and bang the car is perfect . Owner is over the moon and can start enjoying the car again

Where do I start with fiesta long story. Owner as been building this for years absolute credit to quality of workmanship. This engine was from the first ever ep3 I owned over 6 years ago .

We started the day at are cams at zero”d made 251bhp . After removing rocker cover 7 times (pain in the ass to do on this setup) to adjust are timing gears . And with tuning we ended the day with a gain of 30hp to 281bhp. With more time it may have possible to probably squeeze a tad more but I don’t think there was much more .

More I do na cars more I see k series simple don’t care about air/fuel to a point . We tried a target from 11.5afr to 13.2 made absolutely no difference to power so we settle at 12.5:1 afr overall timing of 28.5 degrees of timing with zero knock .

The brief on the car was to get it to drive properly and cut pulling up to stop and not wanting to restart customer aim wasn’t about peak hp but 280 with this lack of weight this thing gonna fly.

Previous sadly wasn’t up to scratch I understand time is money but on this type of car and setup it’s gonna be a patience game ve map was all over the place huge dip in the power band as vtec was set too low at 4500rpm (think that’s just a go for a lot people) and cams where left zero d out . So didn’t make the power I no this engine should make

262hp and 255n/m

Dc5 back to finish off on the dyno . Today straight on to dyno did a decent job on road we new are air fuel was good . The goal was to optimise timing cam angle and are vtec switch point.

Originally set vtec at 4600rpm as our base and made 257bhp corrected cranked hps right off the rip . Set about adding timing as we were getting zero knock and below knock threshold from 26 degrees of advance to 28 degrees made 262bhp corrected at the crank with still zero knock so we tried 30 degrees of advance with zero gain still no knock so around 28 degrees we are MBT (maximum brake torque). So we settle at 28 degrees of peak timing .

We found a decent chunk of performance from dropping vtec to 4200rpm .(highlighted in comparison in our first graph)

In relation to cam angle pretty much wants 45 degrees of cam angle up to 6200rpm and taperes to 25 degrees at redline. we are maxed on our injector duty on these injectors .

Na tuning a lot of time to make small gains but it’s fun all the same.

This car is a great example of dc5.
