Looking back at where it all started makes you realise that Ray Vaughan & Son has never just been about fixing cars. It’s about family, hard work, pride and a name that’s been part of Bingley for generations.

It started with my grandad Jack, carried on by my dad Raymond, then passed on to me, and now Josh is helping carry it into the future.

Four generations. One family legacy. ❤️

The cars have changed. The technology has moved on. The tools have got a little more sophisticated! 😂

But the values that built this business haven’t changed.

Turn up. Do the job properly. Look after people. Stand by your work.

Simple things, perhaps, but they’re the things that matter.

I’m proud of what my dad and grandad built, proud to continue that tradition, and proud to see Josh becoming part of the next chapter.

You don’t always stop to appreciate how far you’ve come when you’re busy working day in, day out. But looking back at these photographs certainly makes you think.

Over 50 years of history, countless cars through the doors, and so many customers who’ve supported us along the way.

To everyone who’s trusted us with their cars, recommended us to friends, or supported our family business over the years — thank you. You are a huge part of this story, too. ❤️

🔧 FRIDAY… WE’VE FINALLY MADE IT! 😂🙌

What a week that’s been! Cars absolutely everywhere, some proper challenging jobs and enough stress to last us until Christmas! 🤯🤣

We’ve been slowly whittling them down one by one, battling through the chaos and finally getting a bit of breathing space back in the workshop! 💪🏻🚗

Now it’s time to get the last jobs sorted, get those shutters down a little earlier and enjoy a well-earned weekend.

Next week’s plan? Less stress, fewer headaches and hopefully a damn sight less money disappearing! 🤣💸

🔧 FRIDAY! 🔧

Well, that’s another week nearly done! 💪🏻

Thursday ended up being a bit different…

We had a big job lined up and after a long conversation with the customer, going through the condition of the car, the repair needed and, ultimately, the cost involved, we decided it just wasn’t the right thing to do.

As much as we’re here to repair cars and run a business, sometimes the best advice isn’t necessarily “yes, let’s fix it.”

We always try to be as honest as possible and give the best advice for the customer, even if that means telling them that spending a lot of money on a car might not be the best option.

So… after that conversation, I sneaked off for a Pendle Hill leg-bashing and head-clearing run! 🏃🏻‍♂️⛰️😂

Sometimes you just need to get out, clear the head and come back ready to crack on!

Another week done, plenty more to do and we’ll keep doing things the way we always have. 👌🏻

Honest advice. Proper repairs. Family-run for over 50 years. ❤️🔧

🔎 ONE OF THOSE FAULTS THAT JUST DOESN’T WANT TO BE FOUND…

We’ve had this Mini with us for a couple of days now trying to track down a battery drain.

At first, it looked like we could have a few different possibilities. We were checking modules, looking at ECUs and chasing anything that could potentially be keeping the car awake when it should have gone to sleep.

We even found an issue with the heated seat system, so we disconnected the heated seat pads and left the car overnight to see if that was the culprit.

Still draining. 🤦‍♂️

This is where having the right equipment really does make a difference.

We got the thermal camera out and started looking at the car after it had been sat. The idea was to find anything that was still producing heat when everything should have been shut down.

And then we spotted it… 👀🔥

The Mini Advanced Car Eye 2.0 dashcam was still getting warm.

After further investigation, it looks like the dashcam had got itself stuck in a firmware/software loop, meaning it wasn’t shutting down properly and was staying powered up when the car was parked.

Basically, the little bu**er was sitting there quietly cooking itself… and slowly flattening the battery. 😂🔋

FAULT FOUND. ✅

It’s also a good reminder that diagnosis takes time.

Sometimes we can find a fault in 5 minutes and have the car fixed and back out the door. Other times, like this one, we can have the car for a couple of days chasing the fault, testing different systems and ruling things out before we finally find the culprit.

There’s no magic button that instantly tells us what’s wrong. Sometimes it’s hours of testing, patience and the right equipment to get to the bottom of it.

And that’s exactly why proper diagnosis is charged for. 🔧

You’re not just paying for someone to plug a diagnostic machine in and read a fault code — you’re paying for the time, knowledge, equipment and experience needed to actually find the problem.

So after all that…

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SOME EASY JOBS NOW?! 🤣🤣

A brake pad and disc job would do nicely.

Something where we look at it, say “Yep, they’re f**ked”, change them and send the customer on their way. 😂🔧

My head needs an easy one after that! 🤣

Fault found. Problem solved. Another one off the list! 💪🏻🔧

⛽️ BEEN ROBBED ON MY WAY HOME! 😂

Just put 70 litres of V-Power in the Transporter…

£150+ GONE! 💸😩

Apparently we’re not putting diesel in the van anymore — we’re putting liquid gold in it! 😂

Honestly, the tax man already takes everything that isn’t nailed down… then the fuel station has another bloody go! 🤣

At this rate, we’ll be chaining the fuel cap shut and sleeping next to the van. Can’t be too careful with this much gold on board! 😂

Anyway — tank full, tools loaded, my sorry arse back in the van and home we go. 🔧🚐😂

🔧 A LITTLE EARLIER TODAY

We’re just wrapping things up a little earlier than usual today.

The doors will be back open first thing tomorrow morning, and we’ll be back to keeping the wheels turning as normal! 🚗💨

FRIDAY… FINALLY! 😂🔧

We’ve been a bit bloody useless on social media this week! 🤣

But in our defence… the garage has been absolutely manic. Cars, vans, MOTs, repairs, diagnostics — the usual madness! 🔧🚗

But the biggest thing happening this week…

I NOW HAVE AN 18-YEAR-OLD SON! 😳🤣

Happy 18th birthday Josh! 🎉❤️

Honestly, where has that time gone?!

Looking back at these photos is mad. One minute he’s following me around the garage in his little Ray Vaughan hoodie, wanting to get involved in everything…

And now he’s 18 and working alongside me! 🔧💪🏻

From being the little lad hanging around the workshop to now getting stuck in and learning the trade, it’s brilliant to see how far he’s come.

Couldn’t be prouder of you Josh. ❤️

Hope you have an absolute belter of a birthday! 🎉🥳
