🚨 LOCAL BUSINESS SHOUT-OUT! 🚨

A massive thank you to South west tyre services ltd this morning!

Rob had a blowout in the truck on a particularly dangerous bend on the Torrington to Bideford road. Not exactly the place you want to be sat with a damaged tyre!

He gave Ben a call and, to his credit, he was straight out to us. He made the area safe, got to work and had the tyre changed for a new one in no time.

From the first phone call to getting Rob safely back on the road, the service was professional, quick and efficient. Most importantly, they got him out of what could have been a very dangerous situation.

It’s times like this that you really appreciate having reliable local businesses you can call when you’re in a difficult situation.

If you need 24-hour tyre repairs or roadside assistance, we genuinely cannot recommend these guys highly enough.

Our Story...

North Devon Trailers was never supposed to become a business.

It all started as a hobby. A way of earning a little extra pocket money while I was building my career working with children with additional needs. I never had a grand business plan, never imagined having premises, staff or the fantastic customer base we have today. To be honest, I accidentally created a bit of a monster!

Growing up, I found school difficult. I couldn't sit still in class and concentrating for long periods was always a challenge. Looking back, I realise that learning from textbooks was never where my strengths lay.

Running a business has been one of the biggest learning curves of my life. Nobody teaches you how to build a business from the ground up, manage a team, solve problems every day, or make the difficult decisions that come with being responsible for other people's livelihoods.

Of course, understanding numbers, budgets and spreadsheets is important, but if I'm completely honest, my happy place has never been behind a desk.

My happy place is looking out over the bonnet, driving across the countryside searching for the next trailer. I love the excitement of finding quality stock, the challenge of buying well, and helping customers find exactly what they need. It's something I've never lost the passion for.

As North Devon Trailers has grown, so has the team around it. What started with just me has become something much bigger, and that simply wouldn't have happened without the incredible people who have supported us.

To every member of staff, past and present, thank you. Every single one of you has played a part in shaping North Devon Trailers into the business it is today. Your hard work, commitment and loyalty have helped us grow, and I'm genuinely grateful for everything you've contributed.

To our customers, thank you for putting your trust in us. Whether you've bought one trailer or ten, recommended us to friends and family, shared our posts, or simply stopped by for advice, you've helped us build something really special. Seeing so many familiar faces return year after year is something we'll never take for granted.

A huge thank you also goes to our suppliers, our families, our friends, and everyone who has been part of the journey along the way. Every conversation, recommendation, helping hand and word of encouragement has played a part in getting us to where we are today.

We're incredibly proud of how far we've come, but we're even more excited about what's still to come.

Over the coming weeks and months, I'm going to try and share a bit more of what goes on behind the scenes at North Devon Trailers. I'll give you an insight into what our days really look like, what we actually do, how we go about finding and preparing our stock, the people and businesses we work with, and some of the challenges and successes that come with running a family business.

Thank you for being part of our story so far. We genuinely appreciate every single one of you, and we hope you'll enjoy coming along with us for the next chapter.

Apparently my ability to advertise trailers is directly linked to my attention span...

I've looked at this Ifor Williams HB505 every day thinking, "I must advertise that today..." and then immediately wandered off to do something else.

Today's towbar fitting has definitely won the award for "Furthest Distance Travelled!"

This left-hand drive Citroën C5 made the journey to us after the owner was told by garages in France that the towbar could only be fitted by a main dealer – with quotes of over €1,200.

Because it's a left-hand drive vehicle, we had to ensure all of the components were compatible before carrying out the installation. We then professionally coded the vehicle so all of the onboard systems and towing functions work exactly as they should.

The best part? We completed the whole job for almost half the price they had been quoted.

No matter what vehicle you have, we have the experience and equipment to fit and code towbars correctly.

Another excellent repair leaving our workshop today!

This trailer belongs to Surfing England and is used for exhibitions and transporting surfboards across the country. Unfortunately, the nearside panel had become soft due to water ingress and needed replacing.

To minimise disruption to the rest of the trailer, we carefully removed the damaged panel, fitted a brand-new GRP replacement panel, and reinstated the side hatch. As you can see, a lot of care and attention has gone into this repair. The trailer will now be heading off to be professionally wrapped so it perfectly matches the rest of the vehicle.

Due to a change in circumstances with our previous successful applicant, this position has become available again!

North Devon Trailers are looking for a hard-working, reliable all-rounder to join our friendly, family-run team.

This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. Your main duties will include:
🔧 Fitting towbars and vehicle electrics
🔩 Servicing and repairing trailers
🧹 General workshop and yard duties

What we're looking for:
✅ Someone who isn't afraid to get stuck in
✅ A positive attitude and willingness to learn
✅ Previous towing experience is essential
✅ Experience with trailer repairs, servicing or towbars is an advantage, but not essential as full training can be provided to the right person.

✔ Flexible working hours (although we're ideally looking for a full-time team member)

Back home and finally soaking in the bath after another long (but brilliant) day at the Bideford Soapbox Derby

We help out every year, and honestly, we love the buzz and excitement—you just can’t beat the atmosphere of people being brave (or mad!) enough to race down a steep hill with little to no brakes!

Our day kicked off at 5:30am, handballing what felt like an endless load of small bales of Exmoor Hay & Straw off a lorry and drag. I couldn’t tell you how many were on there, but I can definitely say… it was a lot!!

We’re proud to support the event by providing our truck and 20ft trailer to help move bales and ramps. It’s a bit of a love/hate relationship—the hard graft is real—but days like today make it all worth it.

This year’s chosen charity is Devon Blood Bikes, so you know every penny raised is going to an incredible cause
