The drove our race-winning Bentley to join the wonderful . Taking place in the early hours of a summer Sunday morning, it sees owners of a wide variety of notable pre-war cars navigate the capital’s quiet streets with stops at landmarks including Michelin House in Chelsea and Buckingham Palace. An excellent use of these beautiful vehicles. 

Our 1924 Bentley, DD 5849, has been owned by the family of Kingsbury Racing’s owner, Ewen Getley, since the 1950s. It has been used in competition since the 1930s, continues to win high-profile races, competes in road rallies, and is happy to sit idling in heavy traffic (if it must). These Bentleys truly are incredibly versatile cars.

This 1926 3-litre Bentley Speed Model has recently been acquired by a new owner who brought it to Kingsbury Racing Shop for a thorough mechanical evaluation and overhaul. We found cracked brake linings, badly worn brake shafts and bushes, and broken suspension springs, all of which we are replacing from items we manufacture and hold in stock.  

The car itself has a very rare Vanden Plas boat tail body. In addition to making it roadworthy and rally ready, we are carefully returning it to its original condition wherever possible, addressing replacement work that has been carried out over the past century. This includes making a new rear wheel carrier to replicate the original design.

Based around a 1938 Riley Adelphi chassis and with a blown engine that produces an impressive 225bhp, it is a unique and striking pre-war sports car.

This 1926 Bentley 3-Litre 'Speed Model' has very much lived its century on the planet. The new owner entrusted Kingsbury Racing Shop to carry out a programme of sympathetic cosmetic and structural work, with the wings demanding special attention.

Thought to be the last remaining Gurney Nutting-bodied, short wheelbase saloon, it has been well loved, but not wrapped in cotton wool, and as a result some areas required careful restoration. The utmost care was taken to ensure the work blended seamlessly with the original paintwork.

Vintage Bentley owners are characterised by their willingness to regularly use their cars, and this one is ready for many more happy miles.

"I’ve always had a light at the end of the pitlane," says Kingsbury Racing Shop's operations director, Lewis Fox. “That green light goes, you’re going out, you’ve got no choice, you can’t miss that."

Lewis cut his teeth at Prodrive, before ten years at Mercedes F1, culminating in the high pressure role of front jackman in pitstops.

Lewis didn't move into the vintage and classic car world to put his feet up. Instead, it is our clients who are benefitting from the attention to detail and time sensitivity demanded in F1.

One of Kingsbury Racing Shop’s engine builders expertly rebuilds a sub-assembly of a Bentley six-cylinder ‘three-throw’ overhead camshaft drive system. Designed by W.O. Bentley, and patented by the company, the system uses a trio of rods to drive the camshaft. 

Precise set-up of the end float and backlash is critical to achieve the silent running W.O. intended with this design. It’s extremely quiet operation is the reason Bentley preferred this mechanism to the more common belt- or chain-driven systems. 

Thanks to our ongoing expansion, Kingsbury’s engine-building capacity is increasing and we’re ready to discuss new clients’ requirements.

When the owner of this long-distance rally regular 4.5-litre Bentley shared his competition calendar, we were full of admiration, and keen to support his adventures. 

Kingsbury Racing Shop has very recently taken over the care and maintenance of this hardworking hero, and our first task was to rebuild the engine in a very tight timescale, after it had holed a piston. We also undertook a programme of handling and chassis improvements ahead of its next gruelling trial, the Nordic Challenge.

While many vintage and veteran car owners are content to admire their precious vehicles, some others are happiest when pushing themselves, and their cars, to the limit. Kingsbury Racing Shop ensures your historic vehicle is able to do the latter, even if you only ever choose to do the former.

This Bentley Racing Special enjoyed a successful outing competing at the recent Donington Historic Festival. Its owner was pleased with the increased power Kingsbury found. Now it is back at our racing shop for a new final drive to exploit the power increase and overall inspection before its next event.
