Don't drive to fast for the conditions. Keep to the speed limits and If the conditions are poor, keep to the speed limit and reduce your speed to suit. Wear your seat belt - it save lives and serious injury.

From the illustration you can easily see that the time gained by going an extra 10mph from 70 to 80 mph is minimal and just not worth the risk.
