π NEW GDL RULES ARE NOW IN FORCE! π
From 1st October 2026, Northern Irelandβs new Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) rules are changing the way new drivers learn and drive after passing their test.
Hereβs a quick look at some of the key changes π
π΄ 6-month minimum learning period before taking your practical test.
π Training programme & learner logbook will form part of the new system.
π΅ New drivers will display R plates for 2 years after passing their test.
π 45mph restriction removed for new drivers.
π Under-24 passenger restrictions at night during the first 6 months after passing, with certain exemptions.
π£οΈ Motorway driving permitted under the new scheme.
These are some of the biggest changes Northern Irelandβs new drivers will need to understand β and getting the right training has never been more important.
At LearneRsNI, we're committed to making sure our pupils are not only test-ready, but properly prepared for life on the road. π
