Did you know?

🏝️ Puffin Island’s true name is ‘Ynys Seiriol’! It was named after the Patron Saint of Anglesey / Ynys Mon, who lived on the island as a hermit in the 6th century.

🏝️ It’s the 9th largest island of the coast of Wales…Anglesey is the biggest!

🏝️ The island is a Special Protection Area due to the large number of Great Cormorants that nest there. We have 10% of the UK’s breeding population!

🏝️ There are two man-made structures on the island. One is an old semaphore station that dates back to the 1800s and one is the remains of a church that was built in the 12th century!

🏝️ There are 8 species of seabird that nest on the island during the breeding season: Puffins, guillemots, razorbills, fulmar, kittiwake, herring gull, lesser black back gull and our top avian predator, the great black back gull!

🏝️ There around 20 species of bird in total that use the island and that’s why it’s also a bird sanctuary! We even get northern gannets, the UK’s biggest seabird, coming to feed in the waters surrounding the island.

🏝️ It’s not just about the birds. There’s also a colony of Atlantic Grey seals that are resident to us, plus we regularly get visiting harbour seals, porpoise and even dolphins!

Seacoast Safaris are closing for the day tomorrow (Friday 25th September) because our beloved Jake (pictured mid-wedding prep) is getting married!

We’re dusting off our best suits and dresses so we’ll see you all again on Saturday…maybe a little fragile 😉
