⚡ Home EV charging is taxed at 5% VAT.

⚡ Public EV charging is taxed at 20% VAT.

Campaigners say this unfairly penalises EV drivers who don't have access to off-street parking where a home charger can be installed.

For many disabled motorists who don't have a driveway, home charging simply isn't an option.

Now that the Kia EV4 has been added to the list of cars eligible for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, should its Motability Advance Payment drop?

The EV4 previously qualified for the lower £1,500 grant, and is currently available to order on the Scheme with a £1,299 upfront Advance Payment for the 'Air' trim.

⏰ June is your last chance to order a new Motability Scheme car before major changes take effect.

Orders placed by most customers from 1 July 2026 will be subject to a number of new rules, including:

• VAT on Advance Payments
• A reduced annual mileage allowance (10,000 miles instead of 20,000)
• Higher excess mileage charges (25p per mile)
• VAT on early termination fees
• Changes to the tyre replacement policy

If you're eligible to order your next Motability vehicle this month, or you're thinking of joining the Scheme for the first time, placing your order before the end of June could save you hundreds of pounds over the course of your lease.

Changes may differ for customers in Scotland.
