There is a current backlog of 380,000 theory tests and 420,000 practical tests. It's expected to take at least 1 year to recover the backlog.

Current DVSA update: Driving lessons and theory tests restart from 12 April 2021, driving tests up to and inc 21st April will be cancelled in England.

If you have a theory test certificate that will expires ANYTIME this year then you may have to retake the test because it will be very difficult to book a practical test before 2022 due to the ever increasing backlog.

Basingstoke driving tests are fully booked up to 8th August and no further tests available and that's before the current tests from 22nd Feb to 12th Apr are rescheduled!
