DID YOU KNOW?

One of the widest roads in the world isn’t actually a giant motorway at all…

The famous “50 lane highway” photos you see online are actually showing a huge toll plaza near Beijing, where traffic briefly spreads out into dozens of lanes before squeezing back into just 4 lanes afterwards 😳

As you can imagine… the traffic jams can be absolutely enormous during busy holiday periods!

Makes the A303 look positively relaxing 😅

If you’re heading off on a summer getaway soon, make sure your car is ready for the journey before you join the queues

Did you know the world’s first car radio was considered such a distraction that some people wanted it banned?

Back in the 1930s, critics argued drivers listening to music would never be able to concentrate properly on the road. Fast forward to today and most of us wouldn’t survive a traffic jam without a playlist, podcast or a bit of Radio 2! (am I showing my age???)

Although… Andy might still argue you can tell a lot about a car problem just by listening to the engine properly, so maybe every now and then turn those tunes off 👀🔧

Did you know… some older cars had windscreen wipers powered by engine vacuum?

Which meant when the car was working hard going uphill, the wipers could slow right down or even stop — then speed back up again once the hill was over. 😳

A little reminder that cars have come a long way… although even modern ones still need a bit of TLC now and again.

We hope you had a great bank holiday and weren't held up in too much traffic. It got us thinking, what was the longest traffic jam in the World?

Well....

Did you know… the longest traffic jam in history stretched for around 60 miles and lasted over 10 days? 😳

It happened in China back in 2010, and drivers were so stuck that local villagers started selling food and water at inflated prices to those trapped in their cars!

If your car is feeling a bit stressed after all that stop-start driving (even on a smaller scale!), it might be worth getting it checked before it turns into a bigger issue.
