Get ready for the driving test booking rule changes. 🚗👇

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to make 2 changes to a practical car driving test booking.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping a test between 2 learners

If you’re an ADI, we’d encourage you to make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready to take it and in a location they can easily travel to.

We've launched a new Road Safety Strategy, aiming to cut deaths and serious injuries on Britain’s roads by 65% by 2035.

Key points include:
- tougher action on drink driving
- minimum learning periods for learner drivers
- mandatory eye tests for older drivers

We're committed to doing what it takes to save thousands of lives and ease pressure on the NHS.

Our new Road Safety Strategy is a major step towards safer roads and stronger communities.

We have published the full report for the consultation on improving the rules for booking a driving test.

The outcome of the consultation means that:
- only learner drivers will be able to book and manage car driving tests
- learner drivers will be limited to making up to 2 changes to their test in total
- tests will only be able to be moved to driving test centres within a certain geographical area of the original booking

These changes will be introduced from spring 2026.

This issue has been going on for far too long and yet it will be next spring before anything happens to stop the touting of driving tests. The day that students can book their tests in a reasonable timeframe without being ripped off by unscrupulous people cannot come soon enough.

Touts use instructor login details to bulk-book tests and sell them at a huge mark-up, the BBC finds.

Not all heroes wear capes!

When duty calls, our teams answer!

While checking coaches at Drayton Manor Theme Park to keep children safe on their journeys home, three of our incredible enforcement officers became real-life heroes when a visitor collapsed.

Without hesitation, they called emergency services, then provided lifesaving first aid for over 40 minutes. They kept her conscious and her airway open, until paramedics arrived.

This is what being a public servant truly means - going above and beyond to keep people safe, whether it's checking vehicles on our roads or helping someone in their darkest moment. They're a shining example of the dedication our staff show every single day to protect the public.

The woman is now on the road to recovery thanks to their quick thinking, first aid skills and compassion.

It’s always nice to get appreciation from parents because they are often the unsung heroes when it comes to learning to drive, giving their kids those additional hours of driving practice which I know was certainly the case with Filip’s mum and dad.
