💸 QUICK INSURANCE TIPS 💸

I often get asked for advice on insurance. To be honest, I'm pretty sure car insurance algorithms don't use data at all. They just judge how aligned Saturn is to Venus on the next red moon and decide premiums on the tides.

But here are two tips I have found seem to work

1. Gather quotes over a few days. I have had several customers tell me that this has, on occasion halved their premiums. Especially for first time drivers.
2. Avoid starting the policy that day unless you absolutely have to. Starting a policy a week later knocked a third off one customers quote.

For some reason insurers behave like you've asked for cover on a rocket launch if you want to start it now.

But if you want to save money:
Get quotes, leave them alone and give them some time to think about their life choices, come back tomorrow and watch the magic happen.

It may not work every time but I am seeing this very regularly.

And if it doesn't work... I'll take off my tinfoil helmet 😂

😍I bought a 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 SE today.

With a knocking engine.

Most dealers read ‘knocking engine’ and sprint for the exit.
Me? I hear ‘knocking engine’ and go, “Ooh, bargain.”

This one’s going straight into our workshop where Tom will do what Tom does best:
take a perfectly good Defender, remove its heart, lay all its internal organs on a bench, chant some magic words (or curses) and perform some necromancy.

Right. Let’s talk Ingenium engines.
They’re dramatic. They’re needy. They’re the automotive equivalent of someone who texts “we need to talk” and then goes offline for three hours.

Most mechanics run a mile.
Tom? Tom rolls his sleeves up like he’s about to propose.

Because let’s be honest:
An easy life isn’t for him.
If it was, he wouldn’t spend his days rebuilding Ingeniums…

…and he definitely wouldn’t have married me.

I love days when I get out of my office and get into the workshop. They’re few and far between these days.

But Tom is one of those infuriating people that is just ridiculously good at everything he turns his hand to.

This video reminded me of a situation a while back… I could have cried when I spent half an hour literally wrestling with a particularly obstinate spring clip on a set of brakes. I had bars, screwdrivers, grenades and this thing just would not go back in.

Tom comes over and pops it back in with one thumb and barely breaking step. From now on he has to at least LOOK like he’s struggling, because I have a really unpleasant pouty face. 😂
