A couple of months ago I did a blog on our webpage and FB called 'Its not a Man's World'

After attending the TechTopics 'Up Your Business Course' I reflected on how many women were in the industry, especially in the background supporting their, husbands, fathers and significant others.

I also remembered how nervous I used to be , as a young woman, taking my car for a MOT & service. I used to get my Dad to take it for me. I had a huge misconception that I was indeed entering a mans world . I felt uncomfortable, nervous, sure that I would get ripped off because I knew very little about cars.

How wrong I was. Coming in weekly to support our Family Garage has hugely changed my thinking. I see how respectfully all our customers are dealt with by Adrian and the team. Alongside this I've attended lots of garage events and training with Adrian and I've met some amazing women. It made me realise, how many unseen women are actually in the industry and how much we influence how independent garages function. So I wrote a blog about it.

We are so proud of our little country garage and the impact we can have on not only building the trust and confidence our customers have with us, but also for other independent garages. We all need to get better at ensuring all our customers feel safe entering a garage environment and hopefully this wider blog will help.

The women behind independent garages play a much bigger role in the motor industry than many customers ever get to see.

Why looking after customers is still the best way to build a business

In a small family garage, reputation means everything. We’ve been established since 1974, and over the years we’ve learnt that being well regarded by customers is the foundation the whole business is built on.

People trust us with the vehicles they rely on every day — for work, school runs, family visits, and everyday life. That means it matters to us that every customer feels listened to and properly looked after.
For me, being honest, reliable, and doing a good quality job is something to take real pride in. Some of our customers have been with us since the garage first opened over 50 years ago, and that kind of loyalty is very special.

A good reputation also helps in a very practical way. Much of our work comes through recommendations from our customers to families, friends and even people moving into nearby villages. Recently, we’ve also had customers come to us after difficult experiences elsewhere because someone told them we were trustworthy. That means a lot.

We also send a quick text feedback survey at the end of each job, so we can hear straight away how customers feel. Positive feedback gives the whole team a boost, while negative feedback gives us a chance to reflect, put things right, and hopefully keep that customer’s trust.

So while reputation is good for business, it’s also personal. It tells us we’re doing things properly and treating people fairly.

We’re very happy to say there’s a new face joining our small but mighty garage family here at The Garage Warmington.

Please give a warm welcome to Adam, our new apprentice. He’s 19, heading into the third year of his apprenticeship, and has already managed to fit in brilliantly—which is no small achievement when your trial process includes extreme heat and a workshop that doubles as a greenhouse.

Adam’s two-week trial really was a baptism of fire—and for once, we’re not exaggerating. It landed right in the middle of the June heatwave, with three days in a row hitting more than 37 degrees. Our little tin shed was absolutely roasting. Imagine getting into a sun-baked car, shutting the windows, turning the fan on, and discovering it only has one setting: “hairdryer.” That was pretty much our week.

To his credit, Adam was a star. He happily started earlier so we could avoid the worst of the heat, got stuck in with the rest of us while we fixed cars and slowly melted, and—most importantly—didn’t hog the fan. He picked up our processes quickly, asked good questions, and showed he could crack on independently. In short, he fitted in very well, and we were quietly hoping he liked us as much as we liked him.

After a proper chat about what the garage is all about, where we’re heading, and how we can support him through the final year of his apprenticeship with additional training, and support, Adam accepted our job offer and officially joined us on 1 July. We’re really pleased to have him on board—fan-sharing etiquette and all.

The Garage Warmington will be closed on Friday as Joshua away doing his level 4 EV Autotech Training and Adrian is off to Twickenham to watch Northampton saints play in the Final on Saturday so we will be back on Monday for another busy week .If you got an MOT coming up give us a call ,or does your car just need a service
