This Mercedes had scratches, scrapes and swirl marks across multiple panels, leaving the paintwork looking tired and neglected.

But replacing panels or paying for a full respray isn’t always the answer.

Anyone can apply a ceramic coating, but the quality of the preparation determines the quality of the finished result.

At Forge, we don’t believe in cutting corners, especially when you’re trusting us to protect one of your most valuable possessions.

Before a coating even touches the paintwork, we carry out a thorough preparation process.

🔹 Deep cleaning – Safely removing dirt, grime and surface contamination.

🔹 Chemical decontamination – Removing embedded iron particles, tar and other bonded contaminants that a normal wash won’t remove.

🔹 Paint refinement – Machine polishing to improve clarity, remove defects where appropriate and create a properly prepared surface.

🔹 Panel preparation – Removing polishing oils and residues to allow the coating to bond effectively with the paintwork.

Only then is the ceramic coating applied.

One of the biggest mistakes we see? Contact washing wheels while they’re still covered in dirt and grit!

Think about it. Rubbing abrasive dirt across a painted surface is effectively turning your wash mitt or brush into sandpaper.

The secret to preventing damage is removing as much dirt as possible BEFORE making contact.

We start with a chemical pre-wash, followed by snow foam to help loosen and lift contamination. Everything is then thoroughly rinsed away before we even consider touching the wheels with a brush or mitt.

This dramatically reduces the amount of abrasive grit left on the surface, minimising the risk of scratches and swirl marks.

Good detailing isn’t just about getting things clean. It’s about getting them clean without causing damage.

When you get distracted from what you were actually booked in to do 🤷‍♂️
Range Rover evoque booked for an interior deep clean after taking the cat to the vets, it decided to do a little p*e on the seat. Fortunately only a little bit got through the pet seat.
Fully sterilised and steam cleaned.
However we got distracted and forgot to take after picture when I found what was written on the boot 😵
It was cut in really deep but had to at least do something about that, can’t let someone drive round like that 😬
Popped multiple layers of paint in there and sanded it down, then gave it a polish.
It’s still readable from up close, but at least it can’t be seen from a mile away now.
It’ll need a body shop to fully cut it back, but it buys some time and removes some stress.
