Jeff Brown Bala Driving School

Jeff Brown Bala Driving School Current vehicle. Mazda2 Hatchback, Petrol. Dual controlled. Hi my name is Jeff Brown. I own and run the Bala Driving School which I established in 1975. V. S. A. I.

I am a member of:
• D. Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency) and an Approved Instructor
• Institute of Advanced Motoring
• Defensive Driving Assessor
• D. (Driving Instructors Association)

I have taught in the Bala and the surrounding area including Corwen, Dolgellau, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Trawsfynydd for many years and have helped thousands of pupils of all ages and abilities to pass their dri

ving tests. Some have gone on to further their driving skills by taking and passing Pass Plus and the Advanced Driving Test. In fact, although I hate to admit it, I am now teaching the third generation to drive, having got their parents and grand parents through their driving tests too. All lessons are on a one to one basis.I am now based in Bala and Corwen. They can be of one, one and a half, or two hour duration. And a discount is available for the block booking of ten lessons. Each student is treated on an individual basis and to their particular abilities, with lessons being tailored accordingly. I can also help with the theory test and with the hazard perception test. Refresher courses are also available for experienced drivers who would like boost their confidence, wherever they want, be it open road, dual carriage way and motorway driving or simply town driving.

Did you know that riding uninsured e-scooters, modified e-bikes and similar vehicles on UK roads and pavements is illegal?

While these vehicles can be seen as low-risk, riders are often uninsured, unprotected, inexperienced and capable of causing serious harm.

High speeds, instability and poor visibility increase the risk of serious injuries for both users and pedestrians.

Keep our roads and pavements safe, don't ride illegally.

In better weather, expect to see more children out playing or on their bikes.
Children can be unpredictable, so drivers - pay extra attention at all times, especially at junctions & crossings, near parks or leisure facilities. Slow down.

Taking a few minutes to carry out basic vehicle checks can greatly improve safety for all road users.

Ensure the following checks are completed regularly:

✅ Tyres - Check tyre pressure weekly and before longer journeys.
✅Fluid levels - Make sure oil, coolant, and screen wash are topped up.
✅Lights - Make sure all lights are clean, working, and properly adjusted.
✅Windscreen and windows - Clean windows helps you see clearly and avoid hazards.

Looking after your vehicle isn't just good practice - it's a responsibility that helps keep everyone safe on the road 🚘.

📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.
