Something seems amiss here! Mileage discrepancies on 3 modules!

As vehicles become more modern we there are greater security measures put in place to stop software tampering, but here is an example if where someone has bypassed that. We accompanied a buyer to view car which we found had previously been fitted with a mileage blocker. It had scrambled the DSG gearbox mileage, and also the mileage within the gateway module. The cluster, displayed a false reading. I was able to advise the customer that this was potentially a vehicle to avoid due to mileage issues. There's a chance it may have been fitted with a replacement DSG but with our knowledge of software manipulation we believed it to have been messed with. The work doesn't stop when I get home!

A day out on the tools can be hectic, but when I get home it continues. It's lucky I enjoy it! I will either be repairing a circuit board, developing a map pack, adjusting poorly done maps for customers and smoothing flat spots, or spend hours building the database.

Vauxhall Vivaro with 2x NOx codes and the customer requested an adblue solution.

On the first code scan I knew the ECU must have been modified prior, even without the owner stating that it had been. The DTC's were manufacturer specific, which was also another red flag.

I assessed his already done EGR delete and compared it against a stock file and it had one bit of data missed within the hexdump. This will most likely have been the culprit for his issues, which is down to a cheaper, clueless tuner.

Get your remapping and deletes done properly. If you go to a tuner who doesn't understand mapping or deletes, or even vehicles, your issues will just continue.

See those jagged spikes, deep holes, and harsh blocks? That happens when a tuner doesn't actually know how to map. They let software guess the map boundaries, leading to corrupted data, massive spikes, and sudden drops. To your car, this feels like flat spots, jerky acceleration, and massive, unnecessary stress on your clutch and flywheel.

Ever had a replacement part fitted to your car because of failure?

If it was second hand, depending on vehicle, and module, the mileage could be stored in it.

This Vivaro had a replacement ECU due to a bricked unit, but the replacement had a lot higher mileage, when the vehicle clearly had less. The ABS and DASH confirmed that.

Mileage can be stored in gearboxes, ECU's, BCM's, BSI's, dashboard clusters (of course), navigation units to name a few.

Locating these can be a great way to find out the authenticity of your vehicle.

Confirming the VIN on the suspected replacement module is also another way to identify if the part has been tampered with, or replaced.

This is not a service where it is possible to make the cluster go backwards.
