We had a bit of a challenging job in Cambridgeshire yesterday working for our friends at Buckhurst Plant Hire Limited.
This telehandler had been upside down in a small river and was totally immobile.
All four wheels were locked but not in the straight ahead position, no power, no steering, just a dead weight of about 8 tons.

As you can see the machine was first dragged from its muddy position onto the hard standing.

We then managed to winch it onto the truck literally a couple of inches at a time, move the winch and sn**ch block then another couple of inches.

It was slow going.

The owner of the land and building was adamant he didn't want any damage to his newly laid concrete pad so great care was taken.

We eventually managed to get the telehandler onto the truck and at which point we were able to use a 26 ton machine to position the telehandler cirrectly on the truck for transportation.

Last week I dropped a Jaguar off at the main dealer in Bradford.
Before I set off I checked the clean air zone charge for my truck.
It turns out it's £50 per day for my truck to enter Bradford clean air zone, which increases over three times that if it's not paid.
So last week I devised a route to avoid the cameras and found myself on a very quiet road in view of the local police station.
I unloaded my vehicle and drove it the 1/4 mile to Jaguar.( customer fully aware of this).
This morning I collected the same vehicle and did the same route onto the same road, only this time the road was full of trucks.
Those trucks were unloading into cars, vans etc which were then driven into the city centre.
Whilst waiting I saw one truck load 6 cars, and 5 vans and he still had quite a bit of stock on board.
Now how does this make sense, I can drive to the edge of the zone, unload/ load and go about my business.
Does the wind not blow in Bradford and other cities around the country.
It's just another money making scheme.
My truck passed its HGV test and the emissions were as low as they can possibly be, why then if it's legal for the annual test is it not legal to drive in Bradford?
If trucks were banned completely I could understand, but to allow us to drive in if we pay stinks of a money making scheme.
Rant over.
I save the customer £100.
