Omega 3 test result back today and it is 14.98%
Optimum is 8-12%
I have been taking regular high dose omega 3's for almost 15 years now.
I waited too long to test my omega 3 blood index level and my tests are as follows:
February 2024 - 11.05%
March 2025 - 10.60%
December 2025 - 12.13%
June 2026 - 14.98%
Potential Benefits of Having a High Omega-3 Index
❤️ Cardiovascular Health
This is where the strongest evidence exists.
People with higher Omega-3 Index levels tend to have:
* Lower risk of sudden cardiac death
* Lower risk of fatal heart attacks
* Better heart rhythm stability
* Lower triglyceride levels
* Reduced inflammation in blood vessels
* Improved arterial flexibility and endothelial function
An Omega-3 Index above 8% has often been referred to as a “cardioprotective zone.”

🧠 Brain Health
DHA is a major structural component of the brain.
Higher omega-3 levels are associated with:
* Better cognitive performance as we age
* Improved memory and processing speed
* Lower risk of cognitive decline
* Support for healthy brain cell communication
While omega-3s are not a guarantee against dementia, maintaining high levels is generally considered favorable for long-term brain health.
⸻
👁️ Eye Health
DHA is highly concentrated in the retina.
Benefits may include:
* Support for retinal function
* Better visual processing
* Reduced risk of age-related retinal degeneration in some studies
⸻
🔥 Lower Systemic Inflammation
Omega-3s are converted into compounds called resolvins and protectins that help regulate inflammation.
This may contribute to:
* Reduced chronic low-grade inflammation
* Better recovery from exercise
* Improved joint comfort in some people
* Better metabolic health
⸻
💪 Muscle and Healthy Aging
Research suggests higher omega-3 status may support:
* Preservation of muscle mass with aging
* Improved muscle protein synthesis
* Better physical function in older adults
* Faster recovery from resistance training
At age 60, this may be a particularly meaningful benefit.
⸻
😊 Mood and Mental Well-Being
Some evidence links higher EPA and DHA levels with:
* Better mood regulation
* Lower risk of depressive symptoms
* Improved stress resilience
The effects vary considerably from person to person.
