Weāve been progressing with the W109 300sel. Iāve gone back to begin to upload some of the work but not easy to fit in 000s of pictures of rust/repairs. Vehicle was supplied with donor doors as the originals were finished. All doors were solid but with lots of dents. First stages were to bare metal the doors and get them ready for epoxy primer. The main concern with this car was the rear end. Both arches were hidden under a fair depth of filler and needed replacing. The back panel was a mess, a rotten mess, again under a copious amount of filler. We sourced a used replacement as a new item was more than some shops charge for a repaint. As with any used item though you can only see the pictures of the surface so itās a gamble, however with the state of the original anything was better than what we had. The replacement arrived on a pallet and unfortunately despite being more solid than the original, it had just as much filler on. We decided the best option was to make the back panel out of two. The required a lot of labour hours but still a lot less than a new one to buy and fit.
Next stage will be epoxy priming and filler work
