Tameside Canal Boat Trust (TCBT) is a registered UK charity dedicated to providing enriching experiences for all. Through public boat trips departing from Portland Basin, Ashton-under-Lyne, operated by our dedicated volunteers, the Trust raises funds to support a vital natural health service. This service offers boat trips to disabled individuals and community groups allowing them to explore Tameside's historic waterways and engage in healthy outdoor activities. By supporting the TCBT, you contribute to:

• Promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals with disabilities and within community groups.

• Preserving and celebrating Tameside's rich canal heritage.

• Encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle for all. We invite you to join us on a canal journey and experience the unique combination of nature, history, and community spirit that Tameside's Historic Canals have to offer. Narrowboat Still Waters has disabled access and can be privately hired for parties, wedding receptions, business meetings, etc, or by schools and groups. If you would like to get involved please contact us. Messages sent to this page are monitored by volunteers. Please be patient, we aim to reply within 1 hour.

🚤 We’re Getting Ready… Come and Join Our Crew!

After a period of closure, Tameside Canalboat Trust is excited to be entering a brand-new chapter under a new management team and refreshed management structure.

We’re now in the final stages of preparing to get back out on the water, and we’re looking for enthusiastic people to join our volunteer crew!

Whether you have previous boating experience or have never stepped aboard a canal boat before, we’d love to hear from you. Full training and support will be provided, so all you need is enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

We’re also looking for people who may be interested in becoming Trustees of the charity. If you’d like to help shape the future of the Trust and make a real difference in your community, we’d love to speak with you.

🎓 Students welcome! Volunteering with us is a fantastic way to build your CV/résumé, gain practical experience, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and make a positive impact in your local community.

⭐ As you grow within the organisation, there are exciting development opportunities and additional benefits available as you take on greater levels of responsibility. We’d be happy to discuss these with you in person.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of rebuilding the Trust and helping us provide memorable canal boat experiences for the community once again.

If you’re interested in joining our crew or would like to find out more about becoming a Trustee, send us a message—we’d love to welcome you aboard!

Please feel free to like, share, and tag anyone who you think might be interested. ⚓💙

IMPORTANT UPDATE

We continue to receive enquiries asking when trips will resume and when bookings will reopen.

At present, Tameside Canal Boat Trust remains temporarily closed, and unfortunately we do not yet have a reopening date to announce.

A significant amount of work is currently taking place behind the scenes to prepare the Trust for a safe and sustainable return to operations. Until this work is complete, we are unable to provide any timescales for reopening.

Any updates will be published through our official channels as soon as there is information to share. If no update has been posted, there is currently no further information available.

We appreciate everyone's patience, understanding, and continued support while this work continues.

When we are ready to resume services, full details of trips, events, and booking arrangements will be announced.
