💛 A Story That Truly Touched Our Hearts 💛
Last week, we were approached by a loyal customer of around five years who we hadn’t seen for a little while. He phoned to talk to us but not for repairs, but to say thank you.
He shared with us that he is sadly very unwell and has been told he doesn’t have long left to live. He wanted to reach out because, in his words, he felt we were an amazing, caring company and wanted to thank us for everything we’ve done for him over the years.
But he didn’t stop there.
He then offered us his stunning, very rare and truly unique Toyota Open Deck, imported from Japan, a vehicle in amazing condition and an absolute eye-catcher. He told us he trusted us to look after it and keep it on the road… otherwise, it would have gone for scrap. That trust alone meant the world to us.
When Reid (our Director) heard this, he instantly said he would do everything he could to keep the car running for our customer. He was deeply touched to be offered something so special.
On Saturday, Reid and Toni (Reid’s mum) went over to collect the vehicle and spend time with the customer, knowing it could sadly be the last time they see him. It was an emotional visit for everyone.
Getting the truck back wasn’t straightforward…
First attempt: flat battery and no jump pack.
Second attempt: arrived with jump pack, but the battery was so flat it still wouldn’t run.
Third attempt: trailer to the rescue, and finally, we got her back to the workshop.
We explained to the customer that we planned to sign write the truck, keep it running as a company vehicle, take it to shows, and use it to advertise RKH, giving this beautiful, rare vehicle the life it deserves. He told us he hoped he would get to see it finished before he sadly passes.
With that, Reid spent the entire weekend making that wish come true.
Saturday afternoon: straight to work: new battery fitted and MOT prep underway.
Sunday: with huge help from Ian at Reflections Automotive Valeting (massive shout-out and thank you 🙌), the paintwork was brought back to life and the interior given a deep clean.
Monday morning: we spoke to the amazing team at Signworx (another massive thank you 🙌), who jumped straight into design. By late Tuesday afternoon, the truck was fully sign written and back with us.
As we write this post, we’re incredibly proud to say the customer has now seen the finished truck, and his response was:
👉 “Absolutely wonderful 👍🏻 ✨”
That moment alone made every bit of hard work worthwhile.
You’ll notice on the back of the truck we’ve added the words “Be Lucky.”
That’s because every single time this gentleman left our garage, he would say exactly those words. Even on Saturday, as we said goodbye, he smiled and said them again.
This story has truly touched everyone here at RKH.
